I saw on GMTV this morning that this is on the increase in rabbits again due to the bad weather. Guinea pigs can't get this right?!

Isn't there some kind of cure for that now? My Dad mentioned something yesterday but it was one of those I'm not really listening moments I was too busy playing test the nation online...lol

Phhhewww i was thinking exactly the same thing!

Thanks for asking! x

It was created by Farmers to kill off the rabbits, but it got too pwerful for them i think?!?
Ever seen Watership Down?

Apparantly, a viral infection. Treatable if the rabbit has been vaccinated, usually fatal if not. Googled it as I'm looking after my friends two and I don't know if they have had injections. Will tell her when she gets home.

aw that sounds horrible, i've never seen watership down because I'm useless with things like that, id cry my eyes out! x

Bambi and the Lion King are terrible as well! Then again I cry at Gremlins! :)

Myxi is absolutley in epidemic all over the country at the moment, its effecting a lot of people I know - pet owners, sactuarys and rescues. So many people have lost their precious buns both unvacc'd buns and those vaccinated. The vaccine manufacturer believes the virus has mutated this year, so vacc'd bunnies are just as much as risk as they are not actually protected against this new strain that seems to be about.
Please make sure buns are clean and that you have addequite protection for your bunnies - fly screens, fleas treatments/rearguard etc especially if you live in a high wild bun populated area. There are two forms of Myxi - Nodular which is crusty leisions on the eyes, nose, lips and genitals, this can be treated successfully if caught early, and full blown myxi whose main symptoms include very reddened and swollen eye/eyelids, noses, genitals, difficulty breathing, lethergy, upright stance to aid breathing, diah and gut stasis, usually resulting in death.

I HAVE COPIED AND PASTED FROM ANOTHER FORUM REALLY HOPE THAT OK O0

me too...... :D Dunbos upsetting as well. Russ goes barmy at me cos i wont let the kids watch that n Bambi. Disney has alot to answer for! :tickedoff: :D Watership down is a terrible film :'(

Myxomatosis is the reason I won't keep buns, after my cousins incident I couldn't bare it! I watched Babe last night and was crying when Babe wanted his mum and Ma died! I'm such a wuzz but where animals are concerned I'm a real crier!

I'm the same! Dumbo is the worst! Where his mum is in jail and she's rocking him to sleep singing 'baby mine' :'( lol or bambi where his mum is shot in the meadow! And these are supposed to be kids films! x

They are plain evil! Give me Beatrix Potter anyday! I've got a guinea pig Beatrix Potter book called Tu'penny joins the circus we like that in our house but even that is evil! His mam ends up pulling his fur out because it keeps growing and Tu'penny runs away from her! Mad! ;D

Hubby told me this joke the other night, I was crying with laughter this time! I know the illness is horrible and I'm don't want to offend but feel I have to share this...

A rabbit goes into a cafe and asks for a ham and cheese toastie, the waitress thinks this is odd but carries out the order. The following day the same rabbit goes back into the cafe and asks for a cheese and tomato toastie, again the waitress thinks this is strange but she happily makes her customer his order. The next day the rabbit heads back to the cafe and orders a cheese and onion toastie, the waitress is puzzled but again makes up the rabbits sandwich.

The following day the rabbit didn't come in, nor the day after, or the day after that. After a couple of weeks of not seeing the rabbit the waitress asks a regular customer had he seen him. The customer replied that sadly the rabbit died. The waitress was saddened and asked what did he die of? The customer replied...

Mixingmetoasties!

Perhaps it is my small mind but I was ROFL!

Louise (Hangs her head in shame)

There are 6 monthly vaccinations but these only minimise the effects of myxy, the buns can still get it. Our local rescue has it and can take in no more buns till October at least, no buns can be moved from the site and the vets go out to visit them.

Myxy in vaccinated buns

These buns were vaccinated and are currently in isolation where its hoped they'll make a full recovery.

I had no idea it was rampant again :'(
We still have it but not in epidemic proportions here in Victoria, no idea about the rest of the country tho :-\
