Today when I went to feed my two sows, there was a problem.

One had some hay on her eye ball and it went into her eye, past the socket, I later managed to get it out but I am worried that it will cause an eye injury.

The other had a long nail and I cut that one but the one if the others was cut to far down and it started to bleed. I caught it with a tissue and it looked like it was stopping but I am not sure if I can do anything else.

Is there any advice on what to do with both situations?

You can make some saline solution yourself by adding 1 tsp of salt to 1 pint of boiling water. Wait until it has cooled down and wash the eye twice daily and also the toe if necessary in order to disinfect it. If the bleeding has stopped then you shouldn't worry too much.

Book your eye girl in at the vets on Monday to make sure that she hasn't got an ulcer on her cornea, especially if the eye suddenly goes cloudy.

The nail bleeding should stop quickly with some cotton wool and a bit of pressure if it starts again, it probably won't as they clot quickly.

The eye may need some help though. Bathe the eye with a cooled boiled water with salt added, use a cotton wool ball. If there seems to be any discomfort you may need to get some ointment from the vet. If the eye goes cloudy this means there is damage to the surface and the eye is trying to heal itself.

Just a quick update, the eye is not cloudy and there is no discharge, swelling, puffiness and blood in the eye. Does this mean that she should be ok?

The foot has stopped bleeding and she is walking fine.

Thank you for all the help.

The cloudiness does take a day or two to develop as it's the body's way of getting the blood vessels to the wound and heal the damage. Hay pokes can become infected so I would take your piggy to the vet should any changes occur, including the cloudiness as this means there is damage.
