We accidentally clipped our guinea pig's nail a little too far and it started to bleed. I heard that putting it in flour helps plug it and it seems to have helped a little bit but I'm not sure what else I should do?
Is it still bleeding? Thankfully it's never happened to me so I'm afraid I can't offer any advice. However if it happened to me I'd take them to the vet if it kept bleeding and wouldn't stop. If it stopped bleeding and the pig was ok then I'd just leave it.
I've occasionally clipped a nail too far and caused it to bleed, but it soon stops, as you've found. I'm sure he'll be absolutely fine (but may be a little more wary of nail clipping in future!)
Don't beat yourself up. It happens even at the vets sometimes. Cornflour is great to have on hand, but the bleeding usually stops quite quickly. No real harm done, just may find your piggy loathes nail clipping even more than before (one of mine screams as each claw is clipped and I've never cut them too short - she's just a real woosie!)
i have flour on hand aswell just incase. you can also put the nail into a bar of soap aswell to stop bleeding. aslong as the bleeding stops fairly quickly and doesn't carry on, then all should be fine. well, apart from a grumpy piggy anyway
