Nail bleeding

My husband was cutting Abigail's nails and she struggled when he clipped the last one and took it really short. Her nail has been bleeding really heavily since. I have tried a cold compress and flour to try and stop the bleeding. Still bleeding heavily. I rang the Cat and Rabbit Abi's vets but they haven't got any vets in today. Has anyone else ever done this and has it stopped on its own? Feeling really worried about her.

How long has the bleeding going on? If it is more than 10-15 minutes, then please contact your local out-of-hours vets.

This doesn't need to be seen by a specialist but it needs to be seen promptly if the bleeding doesn't stop. Accidents sadly happen although continuous ongoing bleeding is rare.
 
Thank you Wiebke. I rang 3 vets, two had no vets and the third wasn't very helpful and said i could make an appointment for Monday (really helpful) just about to try a fourth and it has stopped bleeding. Not going to let husband cut Abigail's nails again, She just goes wild when she sees the nail clippers, we only started doing them when lockdown started. She even plays up for the nurse at the vets. Rosie just sits there nice and calm.

it gets worse when they have had one bad experience, which of course reinforces the struggling.

I usually get on top of it with piggy whispering and being firm. Once they realise that the ordeal is a lot less when they are not struggling, it tends to become easier. My biggest drama queen was Hywel, bully extraordinaire and sultan of 13 wives - he continued to scream the house down on principle all his life.
 
She should be fine if the bleeding has now stopped.

If it helps, we only started cutting out piggies nails during lockdown (usually go to the vets) and hubby caught Edwards quick the last time we cut their nails. I’ve never felt so guilty :(

We feel so guilty. Abigail is making sure she gets lots of treats and cuddles to make up for it. I will definitely be taking her to the vets next time for nail cutting.
