Having discovered that my new vet charges £10 per pig for nail clipping which is double my previous vet I've decided to try and do it myself.
I read the information thread on how to do it which is very helpful.

However - which nail clippers do people recommend please?

I use animals ones from wilko, then large human ones. Depending on which nail I'm cutting

I use these

Nail Clipper for Small Animals, Small: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

It takes a bit of practice but if you start out with taking off the very tippy tips of the nails then you get braver. Don't be surprised if you cut the quick as your piggies may wriggle a bit. Just make sure you have some cornflour handy. I'm sure you'll be fine. I was nervous first of all but now it's all part of the piggie routine.

I have something similar to @Betsy
Was really scared doing it myself the first few times particularly with one of my boys being so wriggly and so incredibly vocal about his feelings (the other one I think quite enjoys it!). Wrapped them in a towel the first few times as I had been advised but sometimes found that the bulk of the towel actually made it harder.

When I first started to clip Christian's nails, I had to wrap him like a sausage roll in a towel and have the paw of the nails I needed to clip hanging out, have my son hold the Christian sausage roll while I clipped away, then had to unwrap the piggie, wrap him back up again with another paw hanging out and repeat the process until all 4 paws were done. Now he is used to it and just sits in my lap with his back to my tummy and lets me do it. Dennis usually just lays on his back with his feet in the air and lets me clip his nails but then he is one super chilled pig!

I use small human ones on the front nails and the animal scissor type ones from Pets at Home on the back. I also have a pair of the Wilko ones but couldn't get on with them, they won't cut the older boys very thick nails.

If you want a hand one day @Merab's Slave I’m more than happy to come over and help you to do it for the first time and give you a demo and some tips so you and Mr Merab’s Slave can do it together. And I use the specialist little pet clippers that look little scissors linked above.

That’s the best option .

@pig in the city has been a great support to me with nail clipping .

I use the same type that Betsy above suggested. They are like mini scissors with a groove in the blades- just line up the nail in the groove and cut. It may help to have a second person- one to hold the piggie still and one to clip the nails. Good luck! It's really not so bad once you get the hang of it!

I use the pet ones like @SkyPipDotBernie though have recently had to use our nail cutters because my husband put the other ones away and I don’t have the energy to pull things out 🤫

I will probably take you up on the offer- thank you.
Mr Merab’s Slave is not yet aware of the treat that lies in store for him :))

You can tell Mr Merab’s Slave that 24 years ago MrA didn’t know what treats awaited him, either, but he quickly learned to be a useful assistant with piggy pedicures (and bunny ones, too for many years) once he realised how much money could be saved if we learned to do it ourselves. MrA enjoys saving moneyeven more than I like spending it

Apparently normal nail clippers are ok. You can find some good YouTube videos about how to clip their nails and how to hold them if they are a squirmy sort. I got my piggies 3 weeks ago and my friend helped clip their nails surprisingly they didn't squirm much or squeal! Not even the usual annoyed chatter if I dare move one of the misses from under my chin lol and I was prepared for the worst lol.

I use the same as @Betsy but I've also used normal human clippers. I'm very used to clipping nails myself though so i find either just as easy to use.
