Hello everyone,

I was hoping for some advice on nail clipping for my one piggt Jasper. He's been with me for 7 months. He was rescued and has done extremely well adjusting to life with me and his little brother Neville, except in regards to nail clipping. Jasper was surrendered to our local rescue society when he was about a month old.
Nail clipping is the most stressful of experiences for him and I don't know why. I do everything to make sure he is comfortable and calm. I make sure he feels safe and has veggies for a distraction. I do use the towel trick to isolate the feet and not get bitten. Nothing seems to work it takes us over an hour to do all his nails. He squirms and struggles the entire time. I feel awful that he ends up under so much stress. I have had many pets before and so nail trimming is something I am experienced doing. What else can I try at home to make him more accustom to this

Can you ask someone to help you with the nail clipping? With one of my pigs, nail clipping used to be a two-person job. My husband holds the pig and inserts the parsley into his mouth, while I do the clipping, giving him breaks between each leg.

One of my other pigs would get very squirmish and fidgety, so I tried to be very quick and have the job finished before he has had enough time to realize his nails are being clipped.

You can also experiment with different positions. With my pig Rosie, I find it more convenient to hold him upright, with his back aginst to my stomach, which how I do his front legs. Back legs are then done when he is on all four legs and facing away from me, usually munching on something for distraction. I personally never found the towel wrap position convenient with any of my pigs, but generally it depends on the pig and there's no one size fits all solution.

I struggle with one of mine too plus he has a thumb claw that curls right in its taken me a few days to do his nails too cos of the curl as I'm about to trim it he moves Grr he's a moaner too u don't even cut and he sqeaks so wouldn't know if I'm hurting him or not I know I'm not but he doesn't help a 5 second job spread into days he's so cute though oh n he has black nails as well
