I feel really bad. My Spice's nails have never been trimmed and i want to trim them now. My mum doesn't want to take them to the vets so i guess i'll have to do it.
honey is 13 weeks old so will i have to trim hers? i was going to buy some dog/cat clippers or just use some human ones. What would be best? Spice has dark claws so i've heard u have to shine a light over them?they live outside. What shall i do if they bleed? i don't want her to be in Pain.

P.s Spice is about 4 years old.

I have just recomended www.Diddly-di.fsnet.co.uk as a good website with advice on nail cliipping and bathing I followed her instructions and did it first time a week ago no problem I also did it by which I was very pleased about! :)

Please be carful clipping them! I accidently cut too far on Brandys nail and it bled. I felt utterly terrible! :'( :'( :'( She has dark nails and she moved her foot as i was clipping. Ive been cutting guineas nails for years and this was the only time i'd cut too far. She's fine now. I bathed it and it's grown back. I've never felt so bad in all my life. I hope she's forgiven me! You've reallt gotta have patience when doing it as they fidget. And good eye sight! Look out for the vein in the nail. If in doubt, take your piggie to the vets for a professional cut! :D

Check out how much it costs for a nurse to do them at the vets first.

I took all 4 of mine for a check-up, only 1 actually needed doing and they only charged something like £5. If you have never done it before it might be the best thing then you might feel more confident to do them next time.

Agree. If you have never done it before get the vet to do and show you how to do it. If you attempt it yourself and you catch the quick depending on how bad it is you have two options. The first option (where you have just nipped the tip of the quick) apply pressure with a piece of kitchen towel that has been dipped in a salt and water solution until the bleeding has stopped, and then put some styptic powder on the affected area. The second option (where you have clipped more then just the tip) is to contact the vet immediately. But like I have said if you have never done this procedure before get the vet to show you, especially if your guinea has dark nails. Take Fuzzy for example (making a point O0) she has been cutting guineas nails for years and even after all her experience she managed to cut one of her guineas nails to far. :)
