the girls needed their nails doing... only the second time i have done it.. i caught Pippin, she squealed .... it bled only a tiny tiny bit, not dripping at all....

do i need to do anything? apart from give lots of extra cuddles and a little treat to say sorry .....

I have heard of people using a styptic pencil - or dipping the bleeding nail in cornflour . Both of these techniques are to stop the bleeding.

Just make sure you keep the area as clean as possible - to stop infection.

If you are nervous you can try dipping it in saline solution. I have done this though, and all has been fine, though I felt as guilty as heck! x

feel SO guilty... Pippin has those eyes that just look at you as if to say ' what have you done '.............. xx

me too - I caught Sparkle's quick once - she didn't make a fuss but I could tell she was in pain. I felt as guilty as hell.

it wasn't dripping - thank god !

Both of my sows have got dark nails . It is so difficult to see the quick. I am lucky I have a rescue near me and , nowadays, I go there to get their nails cut. I know I have chickened out - but it is so nice to have that bit of support - and I talk Piggie while I am there too !

so glad mine have white ones ! Mine would defo be taken elsewhere if they had black nails lol !

Glad all seems to be ok. I'd back up the cornflour suggestion if needed.

I hate cutting black nails, and now 6 out of the 8 paws I've got in residence are completely black nailed.

Aww it's so easy to do. The paw will be fine! It makes you feel worse when they keep licking at the paw afterwards XD

I have to take 3 of my pigs to the local vets to have their nails trimmed, the little won't keep still lol.Only one of my pigs will sit completely still while I trim them.

I've caught Amber before because she's so wiggly. It only bled a tiny bit and she was fine after sulking for a while.

(I think she was sulking over the fact mum embarrassed her with lots of apology kisses in front of her friends rather than over the nail...) :))
