Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on how to keep one of my pigs calm while I'm clipping her nails. She's fine being held up in the undignified nail clipping pose, but when I actually try to use the clippers, she squeaks and wriggles around. This has resulted in the clippers ending up on the floor a number of times!

I don't think I'm cutting her nails too far up - they are very light so the quick is easy to see, and there's no blood. She makes a fuss even if I only take a tiny bit off the end.

Any tips?

some of mine do this, ive come to the conclusion that they are just wimps

Get them used to you touching their feet & nails for a while if they are sensitive piggies

With mine ive found that if i make no fuss just get them on a towel & cushion (often so they can hide their faces lol), support the legs properly so they cant pull away and take tiny bits of at a time theyve been fine.

It just a matter of getting ** timing / day right.. if theyre not in the mood dont push it & if they are reacting ok dont over do it, just take little bits of each nail

I find the back really easy. the front are a pain on my older piggies so i get the piggy stood on his back legs, supported by my hand under his body/chest - a finger supporting a leg , either side of his head & the other leg - so my other hands free to clip the nails. Hard to describe but it really works well be`because you can feel the tension on their legs before they pull away AND they cant bite you lol

Hope this helps

This is the way i do it too :)

I get my OH to hold one of mine and feed her cucumber she does her teeth at me and i've not made her bleed she just don't like it but if there's food she almost forgets my others don't mind it tho.

I do nailclipping during cuddle time. Some I can clip in one go, others it is more like a couple of nails or a paw at any time before they get fed up!

They are getting better with time and practise.
