I accidently cut my guinea pigs nail too short and O think I have cut a vien. It has just not stopped bleeding since 11 o’clock this morning and there is just blood everywhere.

I’ve tried flour dipping, wrapping it up and just letting it heal itself but it just will not stop. Its terrifying and she is just sitting there in a pool of blood.

Hi!

Please see an out-of-hours vet as an emergency ASAP!
You can get a contact number either from your regular vet's answering machine or by googling for out-of-hours vet services in your area.

She’s all better, we phoned our usual vet and he said put extreme pressure on for 20mins, worked like a charm and I have given her some apple and some melon to get her blood sugar back up and she’s back to normal now!

Thank you for the update! Glad that your vet's advice has worked.

It is impossible for us to judge and check the situation adequately remotely.
We can tell you whether or how quickly you need to see/contact a vet but we cannot replace them, nor is any online place qualified to. But we can support you during any medical treatment and help you get the best out of any vet trip.

I feel happy that she's fine now!❤

thank goodness she's ok
Ive never cut my guinea pigs nails he's too skittish

If you don’t do it yourself who do you get to do it for you? Unless you’ve got a willing volunteer nearby then usually a vet or vet nurse will do it for a fee. But it’s cheaper and less stressful for the piggies if you learn to do it yourself. I do skittish pigs with the help of my OH who holds them while I clip the nails.

I think we have all caused a bit of a bleed but I remember posting here when I did a proper job with Jenny and it just wouldn’t stop. I did pressure too but it’s not very easy to apply pressure on a tiny spot on a skittish pig is it? Well done!
