How long do nails get before they need cutting? My piggies aren't going curly or anything but they are sharp and have grown past the pink vein bit? They are about 4 months old.

Thanks x

I took mine to the vets to get their nails clipped and she said that they didn't need doing! They were quite long but weren't curling or anything. It's a case of using your own judgement I suppose, but as long as your piggy is standing OK and the nails don't look to be causing them problems, I guess they are OK. Obviously if they are very long then it is time for a trim. If they are sharp, you can file them using a normal file.

I would trim a bit off on a regular basis, just so they dont get too long and they get used to you doing it. You dont want them to grow so they do curl best to get them before that. If they get too long it can damage the actual foot or they may even get their nail caught so I would trim or get some one to help you trim. Good luck O0

With mine when they get to that age and are sharp rather than long, I just nip the very tip off (just a tiny bit) so that they are less scratchy! You can use a pair of nail clippers and just clip the tiny end bit - make sure you've got a firm grip though in case the pig wriggles and you cut off more than you meant to! :)

merlins 4 months old too and ive never clipped his laws yet, although his claws are sharp he still has baby claws.

to give you an idea, heath is 6 months, and had his claws clipped for the very first time 2 days ago
