I honestly don't even know what they look like. My Mom's friend knows of this situation and she knows how I love guineas so she asked me. All she knows is that they are girls. She's been in contact with the current owners and they sound really irresponsible, I don't think they are even being cared for that great. I've been messaging her today and she may go get them for me after she is done work. I'll keep you posted.

She just texted me and said she got them and it was a really bad situation and she found out there was more than just two. She took these 4 we aren't sure how old they are, and apparently their mom died. Should I be concerned? How old are they? Do they need special care? She screwed some boards together and put some straw in until I can pick them up. Apparently she may get the town or some organization involved because its such a bad situation. She wont tell me totally what is going on :( because she knows how I feel really sad about animals in bad situations. My Mom probably knows ill ask her tonight.

It is difficult to say how old they are exactly. Thankfully, piggy babies are able to eat normal food although most switch to a mainly solid diet during the second week of their lives. The weaning process starts soon after when mum is increasingly discouraging the babies from drinking; babies are usually considered to be weaned and self-reliant from about 3-4 weeks onwards.

Yours may profit from a bit extra depending on their weight. If they were able to get some sow milk (either from their mum or another nursing sow), they have a much better chance as it is especially the first milk that is heavily laden with antibodies to build up their immune system.

If you have got a pair of sows, it would be good to try them on neutral ground and see whether the sows will accept the babies; that will give them social security and guidance that they need.
Illustrated Bonding / Dominance Behaviours And Dynamics

Please weigh them. It would be good if you opened a support thread in our pregnancy section once you know the weights, so we can advise you better according to how much support they need.

I would also most strongly recommend to sex/double check them to make sure that they are all girls before you start naming.

Thank you for this information! I only have two full grown males right now. But I am getting 1/2 year old girl on Thursday. I thought I was only getting two young ones and one older girl, but now I may be getting 5! My Mom's friend rescues any type of animal (she has like 30 rescued dogs, pigs, horses, rabbits, guineas, etc.) and she said if I only wanted two I could take just two or she could look after them until I build them a proper space. I have a feeling my c and c plan will have to be altered now, lol. Knowing me I will probably take them all.

Gorgeous! Best to sex them right away as you may have babies on top of 4 new piggies :flag: Well done you for volunteering to help - wonderful
Thank you! I love animals -especially piggies- and I can't stand to see any in bad situations. Luckily my mom feels the same way, our dogs are rescues, our cats, pigs, goats, rabbits, goats, donkey and Eddie and Smores. My Dad and sisters don't like animals that much but my Dad doesn't really care anymore since we already cant go on roadtrips or anywhere far away since we have so many. So why not rescue more? Lol. :)

Please brace yourself that not every sow will accept babies. You have to play that by ear. And you need to make sure that you know which gender all your new babies are so you know when you need to separate any boys.

Please weigh them, so you'll know if they need extra support or not.

I will probably take them to the vet so we know for sure. I have 2 c and c cages partly built and an empty bought cage. Once I get the coroplast I will be good to pick them up. I will prob put eddie and smores in c and c cage (like 3 year old males) and I will put the older sow in the other one since I don't know if those little ones will be able to fit through. Haven't seen them yet, but they look really small. Fingers crossed we will be able to travel to her place today, I don't know, its a blizzard right now. :(

Babies can walk straight through C&C grids until they are about 400g+. You will need extra protection during this time, even if you have cable tie cardboard to the grids for the first few weeks! Correx offcuts can also be used.
This was my improvisation after the birth of my surprise baby Tegan from by a recent arrival.
