I have been thinking of naming my guinea pigs with a theme in mind.
I think it'd be fun to try to keep it to a theme, and also decorate/ purchase for the cage accordingly.

I want to ask if anyone has a theme when it comes to naming their piggies or do they just do it at random/ a name they like?

Also, are there any themes you might suggest?
I have a few ideas myself, but there's so many they're all mixed up in my head!
:P
And it's a good way to get to know you guys outside of your piggy based interests! :D

As you know, my piggies are all named beginning with the letter E

I also like names that are food related and named after famous people for example my gerbils are named Derek, Rodney and Albert from only fools and horses x

I have four piggies at the moment and one was called daisy already when I adopted her. I life to keep their original name but only if it's a human name too. Donald is Donald because with his long hair he looked like Mr Trump's hairpiece! The other two girls are willow and lily because they suited them and I decided to stick with a botanical/nature theme

All my piggies (and snails) are named after Harry Potter characters! The more obscure names though, I love the odd names :)

In order of piggy hierarchy I have: Narcissa, Bellatrix, Andromeda, Nymphadora (aka Tonks) and Ignotus. They're a bit of a mouthful though so they have nicknames for daily use, unless they're naughty! :))

Update on the last naming article: Because of the overwhelming respeonse we have had to our mental health question (and thank you to all forum members that have posted their experiences; some will appear in the coming issue out soon), our editor had to postpone the naming article for the March issue. It is not forgotten and it is going to appear with all the naming schemes/pictures that have been handed in originally that have not appeared yet.

Sweets or Candy based themes, the girls have always been candy related until recently, and the boys, biscuit themed

Oh my! He looks just like my Bailey! right down to the white striped nose!
Mine are Groucho, Chicco and....well, it should have been Harpo, but he was such a little dude that Little Dude stuck. Bobby and Bailey came to me with their names, and they suited them, so I didn't change them.

My first piggy was called 'Vinnie The Guinea' and was actually named after my cat furbaby Vinny whom sadly passed away.

My two boys now are called:Mo (so called after his mohawk hairstyle) and Steve (after the man who basically got him for me lol).

I do have ideas for pairs of piggies the future and I suppose you could say are themed.

One pair would be Sebastian and Bellamy. With Bellamy being after a character from the TV series 100 and Sebastian after the protagonist in horror series Evil Within.

I'd also love to have a piggy called Lucifer (again after the TV Series lol) and a pig wife called Mazekin...

Lots of awesome names out there :P and some interesting themes.
I'm thinking along the lines of rock music, anime, art, writers, comics, science, history, nature - flora and fauna...one of those categories. (because these are my interests)
I also like linguistics since I'm an English teacher I was thinking of naming them after obscure and interesting words.
Or maybe after fruits or veggies. :S
So many options, and only two guinea pigs...
Another choice is to get them and see what fits. Which is what I did with my other pets.

e.g
Fredo (fire bellied toad) was named after a chocolate bar.
Freidrick (fire bellied toad) was named after Frederick the great, but with a variation on the name because - why not?
Hypnotoad (Pac man toad) was named after the hypnotoad in futurama, because he looked like it.
Punky and Dipper (Dwarf hamsters) were named after my love of punk rock and the constellation the big dipper.
Honey Badger (Syrian Hamster) was named after the animal the honey badger - because she didn't care, much like a honey badger's attitude.
Flash Gordon (Syrain Hamster) named after Flash Gordon, because he had the same colour hair and was very jumpy and fast.

Was thinking of old people names like Gertrude and Hettie or something similar.

All my guinea pigs (current and deceased) that I have named (Baby, Winona, Queenie) have been named after women in film, so Baby = Dirty Dancing, Winona = Winona Rider, Queenie = Benjamin Button. My other two (Maya & Penny) came with their names, and I didn’t change them. Although I do call Penny mama, not because she’s had any babies, but because she’s the eldest.

Mine all have Biblical names. Merab, Keziah and Jemimah are the current herd. Merab's Mother was Tamar and their predecessors were Titus and Philemon.

Dozy and Jet came with those names - we as a family argued for a week thought about Basil and Fawlty and stuck with Dozy and Jet! Biscuit was another rescue and old so her name remained the same.

Binky and Ziggy were painful, we fought for a week until I suggested the names.

Binky is named after deaths horse in terry pratchet novels. Ziggy is named after Bowie -so Ziggy stardust as she has a lightening stripe on her nose. Technically Binky and Ziggy are boys names but I was happy just to have names.
