Okay, perhaps the SSPCA will advise on this, but I'd rather know beforehand to save any disappointment!

Do you think it's okay to give rescued piggies new names or is it better to stick with their original ones? I know my DD is keen to name them which we would have done if we bought them from P@H, although perhaps she'll feel the names suit them lol.

I kept the names on a couple of my rescue piggies when it suits them but others I've changed the names on, because they weren't the style of names I'd have chosen myself.

My texel Boo was originally called Poppet but I wasn't too keen on that. I think sometimes it's also good to give them new names to cement them as your pet if that makes sense. If your DD is keen to name then I'd let her unless she thinks the names they piggies have already are nice - really rescues just name them so they know who is who. It's easier to call/keep track of an animal by a name than a number or description.

It's fine to rename a piggy if you wish! With something like a guinea pig, it's easy, if it was a dog that actually recognised it's own name and responded to it, then it'd be more difficult, but I'm sure a piggy won't mind!

I renamed 3 of my rescue pigs (previously Bubble, Squeak and no-named baby), kept Jeff as Jeff as I named him in the RSPCA, and Cameo kept her name from the rescue as she was already pretty well known on here as Cameo, and nothing else would seem right!

Both my rescue pigs have had new names.

Boris was named Crombie at the Rescue (I don't think he had a name at his first home :( ) and Hettie was called Polly, we almost kept her as Polly but there was a girl with this name in Simon's class at school and he thought it was weird! :))

It's down to personal preference. The two piggies I rehomed from the RSPCA both kept their names as I liked them - Rose and Sweet William. After Wills died, I started looking for a boarfriend for Rose, and Jenny from Crawley Guinea Pig Rescue kindly allowed us to rehome Fred. However, my mum vetoed Fred and Rose as a name combination - apparently there are negative connotations! So he was renamed Basil, to fit the garden theme. I did keep the Fred, kind of - his full name is Basil Frederick the Bronze!

It is absolutely fine to rename piggies - after all, it is a new life for them. Whether you rename them or not is down to your preference. Guinea pigs will learn quickly to respond to a new name.

All my piggies are rehomed from rescues, and all have now Welsh names! Only the piggy who started it all, the former patriarch of my Tribe, got his name from his Welsh rescue; the others have all been renamed or in some cases named by me if they were part of or babies resulting from a large rescue action. But I often let the rescue I am rehoming from choose the final name from my shortlist unless I think I have the perfect name. ;)
