Hi All,

I'm writing this on behalf of my favourite aunt Gillian who has just adopted two Sow's aged around 7 months from someone who posted them up in a free paper in Liverpool. Again, it was one of those 'can't cope with them' ads so after I bigged them up she has taken them in. Their names are Daisy and Maisy. Daisy is a rex and Maisy is a smooth. They ar in great condition, I almost pignapped them! :D

However Gill has a few concerns about their behaviour. The girls are in a 4x2 cage but they are so narky with one another especially when it comes to having space. They have 2 igloos and 2 of everything but one will rumble at another. I know they do that when they are in heat but going by how she come by the pigs I was thinking as the owner got rid because one or both are pregnant? They don't look pregnant at the moment but if it's an early pregnancy do they get a little narked with one another?

Thanks!

Mine constanlty rumble at eachother, they even bite sometimes but they get over it, i dont know louise maybe they are but i do think sows rumble a lot!

Thanks Emma, I know its a strange question! Flora and Fleur rumble a lot too. I've had to give them two igloos but they used to love sitting under one together. Maybe they are just growing up.

I told my Aunt that just make sure they have veggies with vit c because at this stage we just don't know if they are pregnant are not. The guy who she got them from did seem genuine so hopefully it won't come to anything at all. :)

I'm having thoughts about Sephy myself to be honest. Dont worry if she is theres no way its Ralfie's i have checked thoroughly that he's done! But her belly is so round, going to ask the vet what she thinks next time i go :( hope she isnt. Fingers crossed for your aunties piggies too x

Thanks! Oh no Sephy is only a baby! How is her fur length getting on? Is she a true Sheltie? When I was in P@H in Aintree the other week they had similar ones like Sephy so I expect that was part of the same litter. So cute!

Her fur is sooo long now, it trails about an inch behind her :smitten: she looks massive but its just her fur bless her, just tiny really but gt a big belly. There are more pics of her in the photo gallery i put on yesterday but her fur is all messed up because she'd just been towel wrapped :smitten: her fur is still really soft and a bit thin but she's not even 10 weeks yet so giving her time :)

Aww I must have missed them, will go and check them out now! :)

Ok lol, she looks bald on her right side because of her blonde streaks ;D her left is all choc though :)

Hi Katie,

Yeah they have settled down now, I expect they were in season and that is what caused it. My Aunt said they are calmer now, it could have just been a new surrounding that set them off. My boys went mad at one another on Sunday and they didn't settle until Wednesday!

If there is still any doubt about pregnancy tell your Auntie to keep an eye on the water intake - that's always been the first sign with any of mine in the family way! Bless her for helping the little uns 0:) :smitten:

Yep Black Jack I told her that. She said they are getting through a 250ml bottle every three days. Seems a lot in my book as my pigs don't drink that much (except for Cuzzy but I think he does it in the night for something to do!) They are also eating lots 2 loads of veg a day and getting through 2 helpings of pellets. So it's looking like we need to watch these 2 little Misses quite carefully. But then all pigs are different and they may just been hungry madams!

I told my Aunt that she must cater for them as if they are pregnant, so plenty of Vit C. They are young so shouldn't be a problem if they are and the best thing is now my Aunt has pigs she can look after my lot when I go on holiday! :)

Thanks for your help!

Have you double checked the sexes? :-\

The water intake also depends on what fruit/veggies they have been given. Obviously if you feed more veggies that have higher water content than your aunt, your piggies will drink less than hers.

Piggies do drink and eat a lot more when they are pregnant, but if your aunt has only just got them, she doesnt know if the piggies just like a lot of water and always have, or if its a change.

If they continue to be narky with eachother, and you think they are pregnant, I would think about seperating them, as its not good for pregnant sows to be stressed out and constantly purring....and no, its not more stress to seperate them, the cages can still be close so the piggies have company :)

Its just a waiting game, suggest she reads up a bit on pregnancy just in case, and keeps up the high vit c diet, nothing more you can do, in a couple of weeks you will know either way for sure. Just make sure the sexes are checked :)

Hi PP,

Yep they are defo girls, I went around with Peter and we had a good nosy at their er...bits....poor girls! :D That's what I said, just because my two don't drink as much or eat as much dried as Daisy and Maisy doesn't mean they are pregnant all pigs are different. She is offering the same as me, 6 different veggies a day.

As far as I am aware the rumbling has stopped since I told her to get another house for them. So now they have their own space. I've leant her my piggy books.

Thanks for your help, and it's great to have you back posting! :)
