Mirtle is doing ok. Now it's Gertie. She is breathing badly. It sounds like mucus on her chest. But she has none coming from her nose.

Bug made these noises and he had abcesses on his chest and died from them.

I just can't take much more.

Aww I'm so sorry, I have no advice to give but I'm sure someone will be along soon that knows more than I do. Sending healing vibes x

BIG HUG

I am so sorry for you! You feel so helpless when it's one thing after another thing after thing; you are doing your best, but it just doesn't seem enough.

Can you see a vet soon? It COULD be sitting in the respiratory tract and should be looked at quickly.

Going to a vets this afternoon. it's one my sister uses.

I am relieved! Best of luck for Gertie and you!

Sadly, the thing with the internet is that we can only give you so much advice and lines of inquiry to think of, but we cannot replace the vet visit.

It is always so very hard when you suspect a repeat of an illness that has killed another of your guinea pigs; I know it myself!

sorry to hear you have another poorly piggy - its sod law you have one ill then you find another one becomes ill and you feel lost.

Yes, I'm sure we're all thinking of you and Gertie this afternnon and keeping our fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

Big hugs x x

HECK :(
Whee are all sending so so many loves and healing wheeeeeeeeeeks for Gertie and not forgetting Myrtle either xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Please keep everyone up to date........... maybe somebody can suggest something else to help?
our loves to you sweetie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Good luck, as Wiebke has said earlier, the internet cannot replace veterinary assistance. Best of luck at the vets :)....

Wishing Gertie a speedy recovery x

Hugs to you, I know its hard.

I'm sorry to hear this, I hope Gertie and Myrtle get better soon, Good luck at the vets.

She has got a cold. I took her to a new vet. He gave her a very thorough check up.

She is on byatril (probably spelt it wrong). But she is still 'croupy'. Have put vicks vapour rub where she sleeps (but can't eat it).

But one very relieved mummy.

It is good to hear she's on treatment, I hope the Baytril helps.

Did her symptoms appear suddenly, or have they been 'bubbling away' for a little while? Allergies can cause such symptoms BUT I still think treating for a respiratory infection is a worthwhile step, even if only to rule an infection out. I'd rather have a pig on Baytril and it has no effect for a week, than do nothing and risk the problem getting much worse - so yes, I think you're on the right track with this.

Sudafed Expectorant can help if the breathing is sounding "grumbly", if she is sounding congested or is coughing - whether it's allergy or infection.

Fingers crossed for Gertie. xx

It's strange you should mention allergies. Ever since I have had her she has always been sneezy. I think she is allergic to the hay. I am going to have to go back to the dust free version.

PS She threw a proper tantrum when the vet had finished. She then started huffing and puffing as to say - get off! lol

If your piggy is on Baytril, for whatever illness, I would ask your vet for some probiotic powder to add to their water. Baytril, while essential in treating illness, can badly upset a piggies delicate tummy. I speak from EXTENSIVE experience of this! rolleyes

Our Ben has had Baytril a number of times now. The first resulted in his tummy becoming toxic - refusing food, drinking lots, terrible poos. He was sooooo poorly. :(:(:(

However, the probiotic got him slowly back to health and our new vet insists probiotics are used alongside antibiotics for guineas.

I hope your piggy gets better soon. :):):)
