Hi everyone!

I recently posted asking if anyone had heard of this new food available in the UK, and the post ended with me asking the company for a sample for my piggies to try. I'm happy to report that they sent me a whole bag of food to try!:yahoo:

The piggies have had this food for over a week now, mixed in with their usual food as we still have a lot to use up. However, they love this new food so much that they leave most of the old stuff in the bowl...

The main reason I was interested in this food is that it was higher in the important nutrients compared to the food they were on and it is also lower in calcium, which is my main focus as Poppy recently had a bladder stone.

Here is the info on the food from their website Guinea Pig (1.5kg) - Nature's Feast
  • High in fibre (19% Crude)
  • 92% grass nuggets + 8% real grass, fruit & veg
  • Contains long fibre dried grass for dental health
  • With prebiotics for digestive health
  • With Vitamin C- Vitamin C 950 mg/kg
  • Blended with fun, tasty dried fruit and veg
  • Adds variety
  • Encourages foraging behaviour
Here are the ingredients for anyone intersted:
Grass Meal, Whole Wheat, Whole Oats, Soya Meal, Soya Hulls, Lucerne, Rye Grass (3%), Flaked Peas (2.5%), Beet Pulp, Whole Linseed (2.3%), Dried Carrots (2%), Lignocellulose, Dried Apple (0.5%), Brewers Yeast, Dicalcium Phosphate, Mixed Herbs (Parsley, Rosemary, Oregano, Fennel, Basil, Thyme) (0.5%), Soyal Oil, Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) derived from chicory root (0.1%), Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) (0.1%)

Let me know if any of you try it out, my piggies definitely recommend it!

Is it museli or nuggets?

Its almost inbetween nuggets and museli I would say. The majority of the food is nuggets and it has a small amount of dried apple, carrot, pea flakes and hay which the piggies love to find! I haven't found this to be an issue as the piggies love the nuggets so much that they eat everything:D I have tried to add a picture, hope it worked ok!20160816_001501.webp

Thank you for the pic as that does look interesting.

Where did you purchase it from Rachelspiggies?

Mine are on a mix of P@H and Burgess nuggets and they do enjoy them, but I do like mixing food in case one supplier discontinues their brand, like Vitakraft have.

I'm trying this out at the moment too. Again like you I'm still at the mixing stage. I was using burgess excell....the blackcurrent one with smaller pellets, and my piggies did love it, but seen someone mention this on here so thought I would give it a go. The pellets are nice and small which my piggies prefer (they didn't like the burgess nuggets) and they liked them so much i was able to hand feed them 1 pellet at a time (I still have some timid piggies so that is quite a feat! Lol). All bowls are empty not long after I put it down so a big paws up from them! :) x

My girls love it :luv: I had to pick something up as I had ran out of their regular food and my order hadn't turned up.
I now get wheeks when they hear me getting the bag of food out to feed them. Empty bowls all around :yahoo:

Pets at home sell it for £4.50 a bag:D

I'm able to feed it one pellet at a time too, the piggies think it's a treat!

I think that there are some interesting aspects to this food and it is made in Yorkshire - great! But there is not enough information about the constituents. The 'nutritional additives' include a lower amount of calcium iodate anhydrous than some other leading brands but that does not necessarily mean that the overall calcium content is lower - it depends what else is in there if that makes sense. One to look into some more.

can this join the rest of the food review's that have been sticky in the food forum?
