So I have a boy on a strictly controlled, calcium light diet due to bladder sludge, and I'm forever trying to find him low calcium stuff to keep his diet interesting. He absolutely loves the sweet green hay Nature's Own do, but has anyone tried this: Guinea Pig Feed - Nature's Own Pets

It looks lovely, and since he's so enamored of their hay, I thought this might be worth a go, but I was wondering if anyone else has tried it? I sent them an email asking about the calcium content, but obviously they've yet to reply, so I was hoping other people might have some experience with it?

I did wonder about trying some, but I couldn't justify it with barely being halfway through two 10kg bags of other pellets. The hay is amazing, but I'm honestly iffy on the feed because there really isn't much about it on the site. If they do write back with a nutritional chart of some kind, would you mind sharing it?

@Lorcan Absolutely, I'm curious about it generally tbh, so any info I find I'll post here! I know what you mean about the bags too, the only reason I'm looking is because I'm coming to the end of a massive bag of burgess excel and I'd really like him on something lower calcium than that in the long run, so this was a good time to transition across!

@Flutterby has a great chart comapring pellets will find it and post it in case they are on there

i tried it a few months ago & the girls adored it,it smelt lovely & had interesting bits in it. i haven't reordered it since as i bought a big sack of pellets & are using those up. From memory its more like a chopped hay type product with forage bits & i think little pellets too.i would get it again as they loved it.

The natures own isn't on the comparison chart as it isn't a nugget. Although it's far better than a muesli it still can encourage selective feeding due to all the different ingredients.

Thanks everyone, seems like it's best as a treat over a daily food then. I'll keep looking for the perfect thing! :)

I would try calling them tomorrow, it might spur them on to reply. Sometimes I find sending emails will go into a bit of a blackhole.

I'm trying to think who else had problem with bladder sludge...hang on wasn't Adele who was buying some feed from the U.S.? I thought Bunny Basic was quite low on calcium.

I bought some a little while ago and this is what is listed on the bag. I believe alfalfa, kale and spinach are fairly high in calcium arent they? It looks nice, mostly bits of grass and hay, but I'm not sure it would be considered low calcium unfortunately.20170801_173117.webp

@Eriathwen Oh that's brilliant, thank you so much for posting that! Sadly it seems unlikely to be good for my boy, so the hunt continues!
