Dexter and Ezra have always had a rocky relationship. They mostly just tolerate each other. They have definitely pushed their bickering and dominance behaviors right up to the edge on a few occasions. Of course a lot of it was teenage hormones, they are about a year and a half old. The other night we were so close to separating them. Luckily they sorted it out. As everyone knows, it can be pretty stressful to watch two boars push conflict right up to the edge of needing to be separated.
They are getting along great now as you can see from the photos :) I removed the ramp dividers from their cage and used bricks to separate the litter area. They never had a problem with them before but they were blocking each other in the sections the other night. They seem to like the new setup.

The cage used to have ramps dividers like in the picture of Lumen I included below.

Good news is Dexter and Ezra are being neutered next week. So eventually they can be separate and live with some ladies. They probably could live as a pair forever but I think they will be much happier with their own lady herds. They are such a cute pair when they are getting along though.

Thanks :) they have a ton of space. It’s hard to tell by the picture but they have over double the required space and two of everything. They definitely need it.
To clarify I’m not neutering and separating them because they don’t always get along. We have 2 more pairs of females. So 6 guineapigs total and 3 giant cages
The plan was to neuter them so we could combine some piggies, even before the boys little spat the other night.
I’m still nervous though, I’ve already read and re-read the forums information on neutering. We love and trust our vet but I still worry.

An operation is always nerve-wracking, but any elective surgery even more so! You have some very spoiled piggies!
Best try your more submissive boy first with the most dominant sow when organising any intros and take it from there when the time comes.
