squeakywheeky

I have had my 2 little fellas out today for their floor time in the hall. I was coming down the stairs and tripped falling in the hall. I do not know how I missed them but I did. I did. So that was ok although I am a bit shaken as to what could have happened.

I was serverely teeth chattered at by Trek (Puddles just ran!) I scooped Puddles up and put him in his cage - instinct as I knew I had a problem with Trek. He was so feirce when I got back still shuddering his teeth. He must have felt so threatened by me.

I got my body as low as I could. He sat still staring an I lay still staring. I was frightened I really was. There was no way I was going to be able to put him back in his cage without him gripping onto my skin - that is how it felt anyway. We sat, staring each other out really and i'm sure he knew I was scared. That was just what I didn't want. I calmed myself down and thought what I should do. I slowly reached out my arm and give him a little tickle on the head, I slowly withdrew my hand then did it again and so on till I was able to stroke him. Somehow he allowed me to pick him up and let me walk with him to his cage although he was very fidgety. I put him in his cage, walked away amd cried.

I feel like i've blown it, my confidence I mean. I was bitten by my friends hamster when I was little and it hurt, it drew quite a bit of blood and i'm scared of that. I no way wanted my confidence to get a knock with my piggies. If my confidence goes then I will be scared to go anywhere near them. Trek is nervy whenever I walk past him now - maybe he always is (as cage is on the floor and i'm quite tall) and i'm just noticing it now.

I feel stupid but I need some reasurance that my piggie isn't going to lunch at me when I put my hand in the cage.

Thanks for reading.. yes I do feel like a plank!

Hey come on pull yourself together, :) Trek was just a bit scared, Give him some quiet time on your lap with some cucumber(always a good brib) and he will calm down.

Look at this way if a house callapsed next to you i'm sure you would be wigged out for ages, but you would still go in a house because its nice and cosy, your cuddle and nice too, not that i know that , i mean from a guineas point of view ;D

Give it time but don't give up.

Yes definately agree, a piggy very rarely bites, and he was just scared at the time, but he will come round once he knows you aren't going to hurt him. It may take a week or so but it will be fine :)

Poor you! Are you OK after your tumble?

I think Trek was probably just very shocked - not every day a human falls out of the sky in front of them! I'm sure he won't bite you - he probably doesn't realise it was you that fell and made the scary noise..

dont worry just give trek time to calm down, plus its not your fault, if you tripped and still managed to save your piggies from a nasty death, then your very lucky. Slowly build your relationship back up with Trek, it will take time but surely he'll come back.
i used to tickle smidge's back, and he chattered his teeth and bit me, but it was just a way of telling me not to do it again, its like piggy shouting i guess!

Are you OK? What a horrible thing to happen.

Don't worry - I am sure they will be fine. Piggys are a bit nervy so will take a bit of time to realise you aren't going to fall everytime you walk past - as already mentioned, bit of food bribery will go a long way.

I can honestly say in the 10 years that I have been a cavy slave, I have NEVER been bitten (every hamster I have ever held HAS bit me, mind you ;))

I've only ever hyd one bad bite and that was my fault and thats years of pig keeping so calm down poor pigs must have thought the sky was falling in on them like chicken little, I bet you were all shook up and fright does wierd things to you I think like you I would have cried at the enormaty of what could have happened , he will forgive you, they are too sweet to hold a grudge too long, keep on with the tickles,

I own a rescue and I have never been bitten. I have bathed them, medicated them, cut nails, hair cuts, sexing, etc. and it has not happened one time. However, I took in hamsters one time and biting took place. Hamsters are just nasty little things.

You've obviously shown that you're a great piggy Mum (the slow hand thing was a fabulous way to do it), so I wouldn't worry about it at all.

You poor love :-* I do hope you're ok :-*
He will be fine as everyone has said the little guy was obviously just as frightened as you were. By calming yourself down it's the best thing you could have done for both of you. Give him a cuddle and a treat and i'm sure he'll appreciate it.
Please be careful on those stairs, i'd hate you to hurt yourself badly, we've got stairs too and i'm forever fearing i might fall down when i've got Duke in my arms :o

I have just read my original post back and by I do sound over dramatic! It was just how I was feeling at the time though.

I have decided against getting either of my piggies out tonight but I have just hand feed them cabbage and talked to them quietly for quite awhile, infact I might go in the bath and actually take out Trek for a cuddle.. boogar it.

Puddles is a different story as he is still so skittish. going right back to the drawing board with him, i'm regulary putting my hand in the cage with nibbles and treats for them today so he can get used to me. Trek was so calm in the beginning I just thought that Puddles wouldn't be too frightened of me and really he's stuill petrified.

Just bought guinea piglopeadia so going to get stuck into reading that.

Thanks all for your concern - i'm fine RE the stairs.. note to oneself - don't go up the stairs when the piggies are out!
