Hi all, ive had my piggies a week and their run is place on my decking. I have a 4ft hutch and run and at the moment i have hay for their bed which is fine but makes such a mess when I'm clearing it all up.

Any suggestions to alternative bedding?

Hello. :)p

Hay is one of the best beddings for piggies and probably their favourite. Do you put newspaper under the hay to make it easier to roll up when you're cleaning out?

Try vetbed or fleece, sweep it over daily, then before you put it in the wash sweet it again, then pop it in a duvet cover and in the machine.

towels topped with fleece. the more towel under the less often the pee soaks through. broom or vacuum works well to keep clean.

Thank you, i shall try the vet bed and the towel suggestions - as long as they are warm and comfortable still I'm happy.

I use towels with fleece on top because it is alot cheaper and less messy than shavings etc:))

For my boys, most of the cage is newspapers with hay on top as they do seem to love running through it, playing in it and then eating it. However, in their sleeping areas, I use a kitchen chair pad covered with a puppy pad and then covered with a small fleece (ordinary one cut into quarters or a special animal fleece.) Mine tend to do the most weeing and pooing in their bedrooms, so I find if I change the fleece and puppy pad on the cushion every couple days, the rest of the cage stay relatively clean.

I use the brush from a dustpan and brush to sweep off as much of the hay as I can before putting the fleece in the wash.

Bring them indoors and build them a C&C cage put them on fleece lol

Ok i am a bit OTT but i am a slave and proud

Your hutch is amazing! I'm in total awe, I dont have the room inside - wish i did! Il take some pics tomorrow of my set up just to compare.

Ive just been out there though and had a swop about, got a new hutch and run tonight so ive nopw seperated the boys and the rabbit - and they aint happy and are being very vocal about it! she mummied them as shes oldish so they loved being apoilt as they lost their mum at one week old. But i like the fact ita just them in one hutch, her in another and ive another totally free.....

lol I started off with 2 then three then 5 then 6 then 8 lol i also started with a hutch outside as i couldnt find the C&C grid's anywhere but of course a week after buying the hutch and run attatched i found them so i sold the hutch to my neighbour and bought them in, I am thinking of getting another hutch for the garden tho but they need a bigger run first

I shall bring mine in once the weather starts getting cold - i have a shed in the garden thats always warm and I'm getting hubby to put shelves in so I can put their cages in - run will be on floor.

Either that it will c&c grids and they will take over the dining room!
