We have two sisters and had noticed them we thought biting each other as there were some small welts on their flanks etc, well we have them separated and now far from healing on one of them the sore's are now far bigger as though she is self harming!

We give her regular attention the other piggie has healed perfectly, but Lucy is looking sore, but acting perfectly fine still nosey still very active still eating but has these two large sores.

I wonder if her skin is itching? and it is due to poor eating but despite offering her fresh cabbage and Kale, she will only eat the guinea crunch, green lettuce or fresh grass which is in very short supply right now and we have not been able to get much for weeks now.

I am desperate to get her better as she is an adorable seriously cute piggie with attitude,,,

It sounds like she either has a fungal infection or mites. She will definatly need vet treatment, so please get her off ASAP and hopefully you will soon have a happy healthy piggy.

If you need to know which vets in your area are guinea pig savvy just let us know and we hopefully will be able to help you out.

I would say pop her to the vet. She may have some infection in her wounds stopping them from healing. Or if she is self harming then she may have mites or for some other reason. The not eating hay is worrying, so maybe having a full examination by a vet would be a good idea. How old is she? And what type of hay are you giving her?

x.

Thank you for the replies, we will get her down to the local Vet in Stewarton as soon as they are open!

I wonder about mites personally, she is eating Hay, sorry I should have made that clear but the other day we saw some small dark insect type things moving in her hutch so we gave it a full clean out, but think this is defo on the trail of the source.

hopefully the vet will know what they are dealing with.. please be aware normal vets dont actually have any training in guinea pigs as they are considered an exotic animal (? i know)

Ahhh,,,, Well I am in East Ayrshire near Kilmarnock if anyone knows of a suitable Vet?

Hi Connie,

They are a short skip and a hop as far as I am concerned for Juicy Lucy. I will call them tomorrow and see if they are open.

Thanks very much for the tip.

Thats ok. :) Happy to help. Hopefully they will know what they are talking about! :)
