I have two guinea pigs that are both male and are a few months old. They share a cage together.
Last night, I noticed that Oreo was breathing funny. He is breathing through his nose, but very fast and he is shaking back and forth slightly. He appears to be a little more skinny than usual, and it might just be me, but I think that he weighs less than Wilbur does. His droppings are smaller and wetter than usual, and smell really bad. He just seems to want to hide in his house, but I have seen him eating a little and drinking water. Where I am, it's getting warmer, so it might be an allergy but I'm not sure. Should we take him to the vet?

Hello and welcome. Wet smelly poo is not normal and neither is the breathing you describe.

Please have him seen by a vet, preferably as an emergency as guinea pigs can go downhill very quickly and your boy sounds poorly to me.

Please take him off veg whist he is having wet poos as the veg will only make him worse.

If he is losing weight and not eating, you may need to step in and syringe feed him

Here is our syringe feeding guide Syringe Feeding & Medicating Guides, Probiotics Links, First Aid Kit...

And advise on when you should see a vet Should my piggie see a vet? - a quick guide

Which Country are you in? I just ask as it may help members to help you further

I can only repeat what the above have said- a vet visit is the best idea with what you're describing. I would also take him off veg whilst his poos are wet to firm them up. If he isn't eating then he'll need syringe feeding to prevent his gut shutting down. Good luck and I hope he gets better

Unfortunately, we've been unable to get him to the vet, as the one in our area doesn't take guinea pigs. But we have given him more foods with vitamin c, and he's recovering. He's gaining weight again and drinking, and he is feeling good enough to run around his cage. He's still breathing a little bit fast, but I have no doubt that he'll get better :)

I am glad he is feeling better and gaining weight :)
