Need advice!

I woke up this morning to find one of my boars has a chunk of fur missing near his eye and a little scratch like a scab on his nose, i've checked both of my boars over and apart from this on Joey they are both fine (i'm pretty sure they had a bit of a fight). I have them in an indoor pen at the moment but hoping to get some c&c grids a week on saturday(as this is when i next get paid). Do people think it would help if i get the c&c grids sooner and build them a bigger cage as my boyfriend has offered to order the grids tonight if need be or do people think i should seperate them now(i don't want to do this unless its the only way i can sort it out, as i know its hard to get them to go back together). They are brothers by the way. And apart from this they do share the same food bowl and veggie bowl without any problems and even eat hay together. Though i have heard one of them teeth chatter once or twice, but never witnessed myself them scrapping.

Also if i do need to seperate them at a later date is it okay to put a divide in the c&c cage so they can still see eachother and things but not get to eachother? Just a question because if i do need to seperate them i dont want them being lonely.

Hi,

It may not be inflicted from scrapping I would watch the infected area could well be fungal, around the eye.

A bigger cage will benefit boys as well as two of everything this includes beds, bowls, and water bottles.

Boys can be difficult and there is always the possibility they will fall out if this does happen your boys will be able to live happily in a divided C&C.

I wouldn't separate your boys yet just monitor them closely!

What other things should i look out for if it is fungal? We've only had them since last saturday and this is the first time we have had Guinea pigs.Me and my boyfriend have just had a look on google at some pictures of fungal infection and the images look very similar to what Joey has on his face, what should i do now?

Visit the vet - and don't let them use a wood lamp as this is not an effective way to identify fungal in guinea pigs.

The vet can do a fungal culture or they may decided to just treat for fungal.

Perhaps we can point you towards a Cavy Savy vet, where about are you?

Can I ask, did your boys come from Rescue, Pet shop or a breeder?

Please have them seen by a vet if fungal is an option.

Guinea pigs are more prone to problems like these when their immune system is lowered from the stress of having their lives turned upside down by moving into a new home. Alternatively, you are still in the dominance phase of establishing a hierarchy in new territory.

Make sure that you use good hygiene when handling them as ringworm (a form of fungal) is transmittable to humans and other pets.

I'm in Shirebrook about a 15 minute drive from mansfield in Nottinghamshire. They came from a farm i'm not to sure if it was a breeder as we were there picking up bits and i was going to get guinea pigs anyway but saw these two boys there so got them while we were there. I'm really worried now, is it something i've done? I spot clean everyday and i have cleaned the cage fully twice since they've been here. I've looked on gorgeous guinea's and found coconeem melt and manuka and neem shampoo, shall i purchase these or just take him to a vet i was told he's between 8-10 weeks old.

Take them to a vet and no it's nothing you've done most likely they already had fungal when you purchased them.

Depends on whether its clearly fungal or if the vet needs to run tests.

Please be aware that guinea pig vet bills are generally very high. Although insurance wouldnt cover this issue as it is now existing, you may like to think about getting it to cover any furture problems.
