Hey piggys! From one guinea-owner to another can one of y'all piglets helP me with a problem on my pig? Well his bum is matted and the fur on it has looked like it has split if you look at it closely. Does any boy thInk it is a bacterial infection on him? Well if somebody would like to helP let me know and I will give you mOre details so we can plan this problem out. Thanks guinea lovas!inbreeding

Is it his grease gland ? I'm not very familiar with boys, but I've heard that they get muckier quicker around their grease glands and need to be cleaned! if that's the case then there's a lot of good advice available on the subject. but as I say I've no experience with boys.
 
If he lives with another boar, it could be boar glue. Hard to tell from the pic, it's too blur.

I'm sorry, but all I can see here is a dog. I cannot see guinea pig at all! It's messing with my mind! @)

I just cant make out whats what or where :red@)
 
Perhaps its his grease gland , my ditto suffers with his terribly, it usually is around the size of a 50 pence piece and is around about where the tail eould be if a piggy had one? It looks really greasy and dittos fur goes hard and gross, i put a little swarfega on the affected area leave for 10 mins then bath ditto with his shampoo focusing mainly on his bottom and its fine. Try this and if it still doesnt look right or if the skin is red and inflamed id visit the vet for advice.
 
Ooh I think I've got it. Looked at it from a different angle and saw pig bum:)) Is this his back end, with a white left leg and a brown/black right leg going off the bottom of the photo? With what I've interpreted as the dogs face, being the rest of his body?

If this is the case, and this matty bit it just above where his tail would be if he had one, then it's likely to be his grease gland. There's some useful info here about cleaning it http://www.guinealynx.info/grooming.html

If I've got the photo completely wrong, then ignore the above :))

lmao - I'm sorry this is a serious matter, but OMG Amanda - i nearly spat my drink out all over my netbook screen :)):)):))

It does look very much like his grease gland needs cleaning - some swarfega rubbed in gently and let to soak for a few mins then washed off will help. I would also repeat the process a few times at first to get it as clean as you can.

My boys have their glands cleaned every 4-6wks

It looks very much like a grease gland. My first boy had one look like that before I knew about grease glands. Now I clean his monthly.

If it is the spot on his back above his bum where other animals have tails, then it's a grease gland. Just needs to be cleaned. I use cetaphil cleanser myself. The guinea lynx site given by Amanda is where I got my info. It is a very good site.

No, the vaseline won't clean the grease off, probably add to the problem! You need something that dissolves grease, so swarfega, cetaphil, washing up liquid - anything that a mechanic would use to wash grease off their hands or anything that you would use to wash greasy dishes with.

You're very welcome. It helps if you put your location on your profile as you'll get better advice when members know your area. For example, I didn't know whether swarfega or cetaphil are familiar names to you so came up with mechanic and dishes to explain.
