My lunkarya Dolly has what I think is very bad ear wax, however I'm not sure if it is just wax or something else is at play here. I have never seen ears this bad, I've never had to clean any of my piggies ears and frankly I don't want to, they are very delicate, therefore I have not touched Dolly's ears despite them looking like this. They are not itchy, I've never seen her scratch them and they don't smell.

I wanted to ask if this is just ear wax, and if so, can I have advice on how best to clean them? I can take her to the vet if it looks like something else is causing this. Both ears are exactly the same.

Dolly is also a Lunkarya and suffers with dry skin on her ears and back feet, not sure if her breed has anything to do with this also.

I honesty have no idea. if that is wax or crusty dry skin. Our rexy pig had very grubby ears with crust in them all her life, it caused no issues, but i'd advise getting this checked. Don't put any cream etc in the ear and yes as you quite rightly said cleaning ears is something that you shouldn't do as they are delicate. I would get a quick check up at the vets

I reiterate go to the vet just to check things like ear mites aren't there. However, both my teddy boy's ears look exactly like this. Best thing is to put a couple ear drops in the ear (my vet gave me a brand used on cats), give it a little massage and then gently wipe some of the gunk off with a cloth. In spite of me cleaning their ears like this regularly, it very soon builds up again!

I've a feeling it's a curly coated breed issue.. my teddies used to have pretty grim ears that needed a lot of cleaning, now Brambles ears are always mucky although for some reason it sets like concrete..ive got to pick it out with my fingernails because it goes down into the ear canal and blocks it! Luckily, she quite likes it.. for the outer ear I just get a cotton pad with a little coconut oil and give it a wipe, I used to use Maythen ear drops but they irritated her skin, but pretty much everything irritates her skin..
Best to rule out mites or anything first though!

My Lunkarya pigs have waxy ears. I do think it's a breed thing. I clean them with a moist cotton wool bud. Just the outer ears not into the canal
