I got in today at around 5 and noticed that my loudest guinea pig was very quite, he smelt like wee and was wet, and also he’s fur had suddenly become very short (think the other Guinea pigs had been grooming him) I rhen took him for a bath and he seemed fine and then used a pet shampoo- only a small amount on his back not his head and washed it off and put him in a towel nice and warm for a while, i then took him upstairs and put him in his cage he was being very all over the place and dragging himself along, he was eating then stopping and staring. I got him out and he had green veg all in his throat and around his mouth stained green, since he’s been having seizures and not moving. My parents won’t take him too the vets because it’s so much money out of hours, I have 3 Guineas pigs, turnip is currently laying next to me in a blanket. Non reponsive. But barely breathing. I’ve been crying and have no idea what else to do. I’ve been trying to get the stuff out of his throat! Any help!

Roughly the same thing happened to me yesterday! Sadly my baby passed away though. I was devastated and sadly I can’t offer much assistance other than try get him to drink water if you can or try CPR/ chest compressions. Good luck! Xx

Hi!

HUGS!

I am very sorry!

Please keep Turnip as quiet, comfy and warm (but not hot; any snugglesafe should only be heated to half time) as you can.
See if his companions are interested in him and keep close or not. If not, then you can keep him close by with you. Otherwise he is better of with his friends.

Be strong for Turnip; it unfortunately sounds like he is dying. Try to make his last moments as gentle and kind as you can.

Guinea pigs can sadly die from seizures, strokes, heart attacks or acute heart failure at any age if they are born with a genetic disposition for it. It is like living with an invisible bomb on a ticker in the body. There is very little a vet can do in these cases apart from cutting any suffering short if there is no chance of a recovery and send a piggy to the Rainbow Bridge as gently as possible. :(

He NEEDS to see a vet ASAP if he is in pain, which he is currently not.
