need help!

so i got my piggy 3 months ago before my moms birthday and hes been so active till recently like just on Monday i seen a maggot in his cage and i checked him but i seen nothing and he was clean then he has been kind of quite and just to him self and its scary because he took me out of a depression and all then signs of him being sick are not there he eats and drinks still and he seems good but at the same time he just is not him self idk what i can do idk if hes sick or I'm just worried.... what can i do?

Your guinea pig will need a friend as they cannot live alone. He is probably very lonely. As for the maggot, bring your guinea pig to the vet and disinfect the cage and move it to a new area.

Your boy needs to see a vet promptly if he is not right. Please switch from the regular once weekly weigh-in to weighing daily at the same time in order to monitor his food intake. 80% or more of the daily food intake is hay, which you cannot control by eye and which is often the first food group that is being affected. If he has lost more than 50g of weight, he should be seen and you should start offering him additional syringe feed to keep his fighting strength up until any vet treatment can kick in fully.
Please don't wait too long; the sooner you see a good vet, the sooner your boy can be treated and the better his chances are that he can make it through and delight you for a goodly while longer!

If you have seen a maggot in the cage, please check him for fly strike around the genitals; if you find signs for it, he needs to see a vet asap as an absolute life and death emergency. Fly strike can be sorted in the early stages but is fatal once the flesh eating maggots develop and do their job. Make sure that you clean out the cage and disinfect well.

Sometimes there's not enough information to new piggy owners about how much care these babies actually need and it's always a learning experience. Guinea pigs can have some problems if they don't have a cage mate and need to be in pairs in almost all circumstances. Have a vet set up for them that is experienced and have him checked out; most visits are not very costly if there is just a normal treatment done and can save both in cost and more problems later on.

This site is really wonderful with all the information including the tools that can have your guinea pig zooming around happily and feeling safe and secure. Check it out and look at the threads. Make certain the cage is the proper size for room to roam with hideys and nutrition as well as proper temps and areas to place it. If you don't have it already, cavy cages or something similar are very low cost, fun and pretty simple to make.
