Hi there I think this is the right thread
Snowball my 2 year old male guinea pig has just lost he's cage mate and now he's alone 😔 hes still eating and drinking also coming over to me and the family more but my family said he needs to be with other piggies I'm so said to let him go but its for the best. I'm not sure who to go to about this and who to trust with him thank you

I'm sorry for your loss and Snowball's loss.

Snowball should be alright on his own for up till 4 weeks I think it is, unless he's grieving so much he doesn't eat, which is not the case.

So you definitely don't want to get a new cage mate for Snowball? For that try a rescue , who would possibly even help with bonding. I know there's a rescue list here on the forum.

If you don't want a new cagemate, then you can see if a rescue has space for Snowball.

Yes getting a new cage mate is unfortunately something we cant do the heart break that happened to izzy was so much for the family. I'm in contact with blue cross but they are so far out of London for me. I have a vet appointment today for him to see how think I should help him

It's already been a week from our loss of izzy 💔

I’m so sorry for your loss

He really does need a new friend - at only 2 years old you cannot allow him to spend his life alone. Unfortunately as you cannot get him a new companion then having a reputable rescue rebond and rehome him truly is the best thing for him.
It will be hard for you to do but it is an act of love.

Some vets can unfortunately underestimate the importance of companionship if they are not used to treating guinea pigs. If a vet tells you he will be ok alone, then I’m afraid that vet is not knowledgeable on piggy care.

Me and my family have contacted alot of places for him to go to. We just have to wait but that's hurting us more 💔 hopefully by the weekend we will have someone for him 🙏

Glad you have found someone to take Snowball.
Giving him up will feel like a bereavement even although it’s because you want to do the best for him.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve for both piggies
