My little boar has now reached 4weeks of age and he is getting a bit randy, so i have taken him out and put him with an older boar(after a dirty straw wipe from the other boars soiled bedding, ) Pob the baby boar was not impressed ;D they are getting on fine but Mum and Pob are making a hell of a noise,
Am i doing the right thing :-\ he is really a randy little fella, last night witnessed him mountin mum , so I am right aren't I.
Just feel so bad with all the noise :'(

Emma

Emma you are totally doing the right thing, you don't want any more babies do you :)

No i know but its not to soon at 4 weeks some books say 5/6 weeks but he was really tryin you know :'(

You did the right thing. I always take my boars away from mum when they're 4 weeks old.

Kat

:) I take mine away at 4 wheeks but some are more difficult than others. He'd probably be like it at 5/6 wheeks so best to do it at the right time.

I took mine away the other week at 4 weeks,he was trying to hump anything that didnt/did move ,lol

I had to take mine away at 2 weeks which felt really rotten & I didn't want to do it - but they were starting to hump their sister & attempting to hump their mum which sadly was really quite amusing to see because they are quite small babies.!

No you did the right thing by moving him out. Some are a little more advanced then others. :)

have been out there all day doing the big clear out, disinfecting cages and sweeping the garage out took me 3hours but the guinea where on the garden and really enjoyed it. The weather in Kent has been fab today, cages dryed out really quick.
But little Pob was really showing off like he wanted to enjoy himself ,but then would really whine and had to keep running into the garden just to check on I'm :-\

I expect he will settle down tomorrow, Rusty thats mum has chilled out much quicker than i expected, I don't think she likedhim very much ?.

I've always taken my baby boars (from rescue mums) out at 3 weeks. I'll keep them until 8 before re-homing. My babies are always indoors so that they are well socialised and used to cats mewing, dogs barking and general household sounds. They are also of course regularly and gently handled.

Have you got a home lined up for him yet? Was he the only boar baby?

Why not post a pic here, maybe you can find a nice home for him that way....not yet obviously, he is way too small :)

4 weeks is the latest they should come out. The books are wrong on this subject >:(
Some are more advanced and should come away from Mum at 3 weeks.

So you have done the necessary thing. It does seem harsh when they are so young especially when they are only boys, but it is necessary.

This early fertility is why so many population explosions happen. I have at least 11 guineas arriving tomorrow, with the females probably all pregnant again because people can't get their heads round it and because pet shops and books give out the wrong advice :~ This lot started off with a pregnant sow from a pet shop, and has continued with son getting mum and sisters pregnant:(

I've got to take little Henry out this week he is now 4 weeks old but is quite laid back and so far hasn't made any signs of naughtiness lol, mum Evee is going into the girls herd tomorrow and Henry will go into one of my solo boys either Scooby Harvey or am thinking of jinx who had a paralised leg but is now using it maybe make him a bit more mobile the lazy monkey likes lying around, will see tomorrow, then marley and her 2 girls will join the herd in a week or so time, just in time for me to go away for 2 weeks, next month

You definitely did the right thing. I always separate them at 3 weeks, and like was said, some have needed to be separated at 2 weeks. Don't worry, obviously there will be squeaking, but if he's getting randy it may not just be because he misses Mummy...

Kimmie

Have checked the little minx and he is a happy as a sandboy :D, I know i was a wally yesterday but it was just awful :'( But much happier now ;D
Thanks everyone.
