Hi, I bought two lovely little boy gp about 3 weeks ago, unfortunatley toto got poorly after 24 hours and had to be put to sleep, he had a meningoccal infection although not sure if viral, bacterial or parasite. The vet told us to wait 7 days before we got a replacement, which we did and bought home toto#2 on tuesday night. You will not believe my luck when i tell you that now dorothy the other original gp is showing the same symptons. I'm currently trying to call the vets who are on lunch to get him seen too. My ? is, and please dont think any less of me, am i entitled to take #2 back and get a full refund from the pet shop as i cant deal with a heart broken daughter 3 times. she has really bonded with dot now and does not know yet as she is at school 8...

Sorry to hear of oyour troubles sadly this is the perfect example of pet shop piggies, they often sell cik piggies, and sadly you have brought 2 sick piggies so far.

Please do not take them back to the pet shop for a refund, they are not a pair of trousers that are the wrong size, they are pets who just want to be loved and cared for, if you take them back they will just be put back for sale again without any treatment, and someone else will have the same problems as you which i am sure you wouldn't wish on them.

Have them treated by a good cavvy savy vet and take all reciepts to the pet shop and ask for them to be re-imbursed.

If you still feel you cannot carry on, please take them to a rescue where they will get all of the love and treatment they need and when well again, after thourough home inspection they will be re-homed to a loving home.

If you want to carry on keeping piggies please think about going to a rescue, rescues are over-run with piggies they have taken in who are now, fit & healthy, not pregnant and well bonded so you do not run the same risks as you do when going to a pet shop or breder, pet shops ad breeder just want to make money.

sorry to hear about your piggies. i agree with toffeewoffee, dont take them back. i know that pets at home will pay for vet treatment if you take the receipts along with ''proof of purchase''

its not that i dont want them, i am sure that the same will happen to this one and will have to get it put to sleep as it is now collapsing and twitching, so will again have to introduce another one, i am really thinking of my daughter who is getting attached and then keeps losing them, she will be devasted. it is getting worse and worse, i have a app at a very good vet who herself has kept gp at 4:15 8...

Lovey you need to get him to the vet NOW, i doubt without treatment he will last until your appointment, he could be really suffering and in alot of pain, please just take him now. It is an emergency.

I am so sorry for your awful situation. Please have him seen by a vet asap despite your fears - he needs help NOW. Bill Pets@Home with the cost.

PS: If you want healthy guinea pigs, the safest place to get them is a good guinea pig rescue. We have a list available of recommendable ones that only rehome healthy guinea pigs after a quarantine.

ok, they have managed to squeeze me in, so I'm off with Dot, wish me luck x
thanks guys

ok Back from Vets, Not really sure whats wrong. Vet said he is very thin and his back end not responding well(this happened to the other one as well) he checked him over and also said that there is some Torquise stuff in his throat?, We went through the daily habits, feeds, water, Play etc and he said that he has either ingested a toxin 8...8...8... or has a vitamin c Deficiency. Been told to syringe water with a vit c tablet crushed up and keep quite and see how he goes. Now the only thing Blue he has had is some Gp toys from Trago, Like a straw ball with some straw radishes or something with blue/green leaves. I have even checked the lawn with a fine tooth comb as they were out on sunday in their run.?/

The dye could have leaked or something if it got wet(?) or it could be something they had at the pet shop? Where did you buy the guineas from?

Unfortunately, Dot detererated fast and was put to sleep by the vet yesterday afternoon. The vet suspected a genetic condition :0 all very upset and missing my little shoulder pig x
