My piggie had his teeth filed a few days ago and wont eat dry food; I want to try him on some Oxbow Cavy Cuisine as I heard these are quite soft so I think they will be easier for him to eat. Does anyone know of ANYWHERE vets or shops ect. that sells Oxbow Cavy Cuisine in Cheshire, preferably around the Northwich area as I need them ASAP and can't wait for postage
Thanks for any help
Not every pig likes Oxbow....and it is very expensive.
You have two other options:
Supreme Recovery PLus - similar to oxbow and normally available over the internet - this is a new version of the older Supreme recovery - the new version contains probioitics and other "good stuff". Do not use the syringe provided - it dispnses too much for a piggie and they could either choke or inhale it into their lungs.
or you can do what I now do - which is a more immediate solution:
Take normal good quality pellets, hydrate in boiled hot water...then use a hand blender to make a smooth paste. You can add probiotics, extra Vit C to this mixture. Feed to piggie when cooled (pthis mixturease test the temperature)
If blended correctly this mixture can be easily given to a piggie by syringe feeding (provided you cut the tip ONLY off the 1ml syringe and leave the barrel intact - so the black plunger does not come out of the end of the syringe and therefore cannot be chewed off by the piggie whilst being fed - otherwise fatal gut blockage could result)
If you piggie is not eating their normal amount of food - or their poos have changed shape/texture - they need to be given additional food to help keep their guts moving.
We have him on something to get his guts moving and we are syringe feeding him the Oxbow Critical Care just wanted to try and get him eating on his own and back to normal thanks for your help though xx
