I'm running low on hay, went to buy a bag today but all the shops have run out! :{ So I have filled up the piggy hutch with all the hay I have but I have used this too? Is the bedding safe? It says it's for guinea pigs but I know that some beddings are harmful... :{ I will go and take it out if it's no good.

I've used this too so don't worry. It isn't as good as hay, obviously, but it IS bedding and its ok for piggies. We went through a phase earlier in the year when we couldn't get hay for love nor money so used all sorts. We found the paper-y stuff best but as long as its suitable you'll be fine.

oh great! :) Thanks :(|) My mind has been put at rest and I can get to sleep now. :))

Is it that fluffy stuff? Some people say it's not good, but I don't think it will really harm them, if just used for a short time. :) I know someone who uses it sometimes and her pigs are fine :)

the fluffy stuff is dangerous, i once had a mouse in and it was bedded on this fluffy bedding and her tail had come off what had happened is the fluffy bedding got caught around her tail and stopped blood supply and her tail dropped off, the paper bedding is ok but its far cheaper to shread paper.

but hay is always a must for guineas not just for keeping warm but for health reasons so its important you never run out or the guineas dont go a day with out any hay....

I know hay is a must! We always get a new bale before we run out but like I said, couldn't get any. Farmer was out, pet shop was closed and everywhere else had sold out. They still had a bit of hay yesterday but I only used the paper bedding because I wanted them to be warm enough at night. I don't plan to use it in the future, I only had some as my friend's hamster died last week and she gave me the spare bedding. ;)

ETA: We got a £3 massive bale today :(|)

I've used the paper bedding when the girls have had surgery - its less likely to cause a problem with the wound. They love having it in the cage they tend to burrow in it more than they do when they have a pile of hay.

I get hay from the supermarkets, there are 3 supermarkets around here within walking distant that provide hay plus the pets shop. So that's 4 places to get it from, never have a problem finding it. That warm bed stuff will be all right, it says paper flakes on that pack so no worries.
