Bubble and squeak can't be brought inside until next weekend (need to clear a space in the garage which will take ages and don't have a chance to do that until the end of the week!) so I need to think of some ways to keep them warm until then...

They have a tarpuline cover over their hutch which i pull down at night to shelter them from the wind which keeps them a little warmer. They get mountains of hay at night to snuggle up in too. And lastly they have a cosy bed thing but I cannot fit that and their pigloo in the bedroom area so the bed stays out in the other bit. Oh and I don't have a heat pad but I will be ordering one. Anything else I can do to keep them warm until the weekend?

-hay
-heatpad
-wooden houses are better then plastic (surround with hay)
-more food = more energy for warmth
-stop any strong winds or rain getting into the hutch
-towels or duvet around the hutch and mesh to catch dead air

That's all I can think of really, they should be ok :)

Ok great! Thanks for that! I'll put their wooden house in rather than the pigloo then. I can do all of those apart from the heatpad but as I say I'll order one asap. Thanks again that was a big help!

my heatpad (the snuggle variety) was from amazon, £15. Came in 3 days I think.. but both my girls LOVED it. They would take it in turns to nuzzle their way on and push the other off. keeps warm (at least body temp) for at least 8 hours then fades out. Don't re-heat until stone cold though, or you'll overheat anything that is still liquid to start off with and destroy the product. Reasonably cheap, and indispensable at keeping their tummies warm!

p.s. i was put off at the cheap look of the product at first.. garish pink plastic and a flimsy cover.. and although it does feel a bit firm to you or me.. the guineas dont care one bit.

I gave mine a bowl of warm bran mash with grated beetroot for their breakfast this morning. It snowed a bit overnight here, so I thought they deserved something warming in their tummies - they dived on it! :)

:) Ive managed (with the help of my fab dad) to clear a space just big enough for their hutch in the garage! So happy! It's supposed to be getting below zero degrees here tonight so I'm very glad they are now in the warm! They haven't got a great amount of light in there (but this is compared to being outside!) but they've got enough I think. :))

My piggies tried this for the first time last weekend :) out of interest, do you use wheat bran or oat bran and how thick do you make the mash? I used wheat bran

I have some oat bran, and also porridge oats. How do you do them for piggies? Thanks

I've been using equalish quantities of wheat bran and porridge oats. I add enough boiling water to moisten it, but without it going too sloppy - it still looks a little bit crumbly in texture. Then, by the time I've added some grated veg, it's the perfect temp to give it straight to them. Voila! :)

I put about a large handful of bran and a large handful of porridge oats in a bowl, add boiling water and mix. I then add grated veg (carrot, apple, beet root it doesn't have to be all 3 together) and serve slightly warm. I was a little confused about the consistency but primrose has answered my question further down :) I have been using wheat bran but I may try oat bran next
