Need Your Help And Pictures For My Next Magazine Article!

Don't know if this is any good but mummy and babies all have 'E' names but I'm thinking maybe you don't want baby piggies in the magazine?

Eva, Eden, Ellie and Emmett

Thank you! @Claire W also has all her piggies starting with an E, so I am torn!

Please keep them coming! That is already a great range of inspiration! Has anybody got a piggy or two with very exotic names?

My piggies are Voltti, Ampeeri and Ohmi, which translate to Volt, Ampere and Ohm, respectively. So the theme would be units in electronics :)) Me and my husband both have a Masters degree in electrical engineering, so our naming theme was something we couldn't resist!

Here are Voltti and Ampeeri

Unfortunately I don't have a group photo, since Ampeeri and Ohmi have never met.

Thanks, yes, I have! In fact, Portland Guinea Pig Rescue is going to write a special article for GPM in which they do not speak mostly about the technical (like in the article which is from the computer programmer's perspective), but the practical side from a rescue pespective, and you get to see plenty of pics of computer named rescue piggies. :tu:

My article is going to be the companion piece to look at naming from a pet owner's perspective. :D

Everyone this is a fantastic thread :like: and I'm loving all the great and unusally names people collect for there piggies. I can't really compete as nearly all my.pets were named before I became "DAD" I did have a kitten once which she was named GERTRUDE after a :lol!: Duck from the film Journey to the centre of the earth.. . As one gets older we get what's is called street wise and take time in doing things and naming a pet falls into that. See after 14 months I took Gerty :raz: to vets for prep into having a litter. And much to the vets amusement i had a boy cat. See i failed to notice his bits. BUT the name stayed and Gerty became a wonderful pet for years he died age 21. Bless him/her.. So I'm really enjoying this thread and well done for some great names and themes. David (male defo) x

Do let us know when it's out - I hope Binky, Errol and Susan are in it! I'll pin it on their bedroom wall when we move to our new house!

Our first 2 piggies, Badger and Beaver, were given those names for 2 reasons - firstly because of their colour, Badger being mostly black and white, and Beaver golden brown like a beaver, and secondly because my son (whose pigs they were) was at the time a member of Beaver Scouts and St John Badgers.

Our next pig, Yoshi, had been named after the SuperMario character - his cagemate Sonic had sadly died already, before his owners who were going abroad, took him to the rescue.
Zebedee also had his name when he came to us from rescue - though I can't imagine anything less spring-like than dear old Zeb !

Squeaks was a very vocal baby when we adopted him, hence the name there. In his case, we did change the name he had been given in rescue - they had called him Jackson, because he is black all over, except for one white paw, like Michael Jackson in one of his performances.

This is Badger:

Sorry they're not particularly good photos but you're welcome to use them if they are any use!

Thank you ever so much! That is definitely a new one to me! With so many different naming schemes, I can only use one picture per naming scheme, but will try to mention any other piggies with matching names. ;)

Do you happen to have a picture of Badger and Beaver together? I haven't got an animal inspired theme picture yet.

My cats have great names as my daughter picked them. Our female is named Zelda after the princess in the games and our male is named Bazinga (Baz for short) after Big bang Theory. She also chose our Cockatiel's name, Harley as in Harley Quinn from the comics.

This reminds me the two dogs of my Professor of Psychology at the Uni: the Yorkshire was named Freud and the Chihuahua was Jung!

We have decided to do sci-fi girl names... we have Hadley (named after Hadley's Hope, the colony from the film Aliens) and Leela (from Futurama.) Hadley is the agouti one up front, Leela is the red and white behind.

I've always went with food names for my piggies. My rainbow bridge pigs were called Fizz, Toffee, Cinnamon, Candy and Chocolate. :P

For my 2 sows I went with Beans and Toast. When I saw Beans I instantly thought she just looked like a Beans, not sure why, just thought her little face suited that name. Then it just made sense to call Toast, Toast, which she suits too.

It always makes vets laugh when they have to shout out "Beans and Toast" in the waiting room :xd:

Beans is a tri coloured smooth I believe, ginger and white with a little bit of black mixed in. Toast (mainly black) is tri coloured sheltie mix, I'm not too sure.

Great Names. We love your Beans and toast.

I would probably go with Captain Jack (avatar) my most treasured piggy. He was adopted from p@h and left on his own following an eye removal due to a hay poke and not getting proper attention, it was removed by a less than experienced vet and it still causes him the odd problem but it's better to leave alone than mess with. In addition, he's a pink eye so the chances of getting picked up by a good carer was slim. His original name was Bob and tagged as being difficult and didn't mix well with other piggies. Except it was the opposite, he was incredibly happy just to be held and enjoy company. He was renamed Captain Jack because we're into naval history and it was timely from Jack Sparrow character from Pirates of the Caribbean.

All my piggies names are random, I always keep their adopted names unless it's totally not right for their character. The last adoptee with a name change is Jellicoe after Admiral Jellicoe and has a patch over one eye.IMG_0594.webp

Thank you - they are both gorgeous! As I have listed mythology as a source for piggy names, your picture is most welcome!

That 3rd picture is amazing!

Do you have a picture of Admiral Jellicoe or could you do a shoot with the Captain and the Admiral together in one picture? I love the maritime connection!

So I'm not the only one! :)) Actually our other option for our first piggies was Newton and Maxwell, but Voltti and Ampeeri were cuter and better names and the other option was dropped rather quickly

I have no creativity unfortunately... At the rescue where I adopted my two sows there are now two new babies (born from a rescued pregnant mum) and the lady volunteer who is looking after them works in the Astronomy research field and named the babies Cosmo and Atomo!:D
Voltti and Ampeeri are two really cute names and definitely appropriated to your piggies' cuteness!:luv:

:D I had a friend at uni who was into reading sci-fi; she named her (somewhat illegal) goldfish "Asimov" !

I used to look after a friend's cats while they were away on holiday. The first was called Ginger, shortened to Gin. When they got 2 more and carried on the theme, I found myself having to go out into their garden and shouting "Whisky! Gin! Tonic!" at the top of my voice at feeding time. I wonder what the neighbours made of me?

Mine have pig puns as names - Piglet, Miss Piggy and Ginny Pig.
IMG_2705.webpFirst pic is all 3 meeting for the first time, before the barrier was removed.

IMG_2683.webp Miss Piggy (white and grey fluff-ball) and Ginny Pig (Ginger, white and black)
IMG_2614.webp Piglet again because I love it when he lays like this!
I don't seem to have any clear photos of all 3 together because it's impossible to get them all to stay still in one place at the same time lol.

I also have Eileen. She was named this because of her missing eye,. Her full title is: One Eyed Eileen :D
