(Piggie poop pic warning :sly:) My Milton has scratched his eye, luckily didn’t get his pupil. The vet prescribed me these antibiotic eye drops to give them 3 times a day for 5 days. I have given him 2 drops today, but his eye keeps almost “flushing”? At random there will be lots of milk like discharge seeping from his little eye, is this just him flushing it out? Idk what this is... should I be worried about this? I’ve also mention to the vet but he didn’t look into it, but his feces are larger and of green colour with almost ‘stripes’ running down? I read on GuineaLynx green feces could be the feces they reingested for nutrients just coming out? 498BDDD5-FAB0-4F6A-8C69-2800162CD8B1.webp
Not a cute picture, but it worries me a tad. :(
Any advice on a scratched piggie eye and feces change would be appreciated!:luv:

Hi! Please give the eye time to heal. The drops will initially wash any ulcerated gunk out of the eye.

You boy has got a small digestive issue. Take him off fresh food for a day to encourage him eating as much hay and see whether that does the trick; please be aware that the output runs about a day behind the input.

I took him off veg for a couple weeks so he’s been eating almost nothing but hay and pellets, BUT I did start giving him a very miniscule amount of alfa Alfa mixed into his Timothy, and he was getting carrots for hand feedings and bribes for eye drops right now. Should I slow down on carrots? They get maybe 2 baby carrots a day, I know the babies are higher in sugars but it was just easier at the moment to buy a bag of minis than a ton of big carrots

I’ve taken all the Alfa Alfa out though once I saw his poop, and he’s only gettin Timothy now, I don’t see any abnormal bowel movements today, maybe a little more odorous if anything...

Stop the carrot. It is high in sugar and fat and should only be given about twice a week.

Most minor tummy issues regulate themselves if you stop veg for a day or two - veg only makes about 10-15% of the daily food intake, so it is not a real problem because your boy will eat simply more hay. Your problem is extremely minor, but a good general diet can make a real difference for a long life in those guinea pigs that don't develop a chronic medical problem.
Like humans, guinea pigs are junkies for sugary, fatty foods like carrot, sweet corn or fruit!

Awesome, thank you I’ll stop with the carrots! How is spinach?

Spinach is well loved but high in calcium so should only be fed in limited amounts

Okay thank you! So much to learn with these little beans. I’m trying to find a good treat for him, tonight he got a bit of celery and some green peppers to munch away on.

Have a read through our diet guide; it tells you what you can best feed how often and has got a sample diet of what you can feed safely on a daily basis. Most of our long term members feed a diet that is based around it with individual flourishes. We have made the experience that the occurrance of bladder stones for instance has come right down. Make sure that you know how hard the water in your area is. Here in the UK, we mostly live with hard to very hard water, so we have to be extra careful when it comes to calcium.
