Friday I had noticed my 6 month old guinea pig Spazz had not pooped that day and wasn't eating but was very energetic and was showing some interest for her fruits but wasn't eating. Saturday morning took her to the vet and they had said that everything Appeared fine but seemed she had some bloating. She was giving fluids via injection. I was then sent home with metronidazole, metacam, and strong vitamin and critical care. Since I've been hand feeding her the critical care and giving her medication she's sleeping a lot more and shows zero interest in anything. It's now Monday morning and since Saturday she's has pooped about four times now small pellet sized and still urinates. Is her being so lazy and having the lack of interest normal at this point or should she be improving more?

I just googled Metronidazole and it seems it is an antibiotic (Flagyl in the UK) so I would recommend probiotics too, given an hour apart from the antibitoics. Also did the vet mention a gut stimulant at all? common brands here are Metachlpromide (or Emeprid) and also Zantac which I have not used myself as I have heard it is only needed for a blockage and works on a different part of the gut but maybe ask your vet about Metachlopromide?

You can also massage her tummy to get things moving?

That's the part that was slightly odd to me. I dont understand why the vet didn't mention or give me probiotics. After everytime I feed her I massage her belly to try and help to get things moving.

I know that a fresh dropping from a healthy piggy acts like a probiotic but would that be enough or should I actually make another appointment to try and obtain something from the vet? ( almost 100 USA dollars per visit)

I've just had my Ceri pts on Sunday when her bloat instead of going down got worse, despite her getting all the right medication and me hand feeding her round the clock for two days.

Are you hand feeding round the clock to keep the guts going? If she is not eating, there is nothing she can poop out and the guts will start to close down after a day. How is the bloat; has the belly swollen down and is soft again? Please have her seen by your vet as there is no improvement. Her apathy is not a good sign and she may be in major pain.

She has pooped a few times now. Granted they're small poop pellets but about7-8 droppings at a time. Her belly is soft to the touch since I've been massaging her belly. The vet has her on pain meds as well. She's just really lazy and still won't eat on her own. She just had her 3rd dose of meds and a belly massage and is now right back to sleep after pooping and peeing.
