neem shampoo

my piggies have quite a lot of dandruff in their hair but no actual hair loss. They have no bald patches or anything and their hair is not coming out in clumps. I have ordered some coconeem melt and neem shampoo from gorgeous guineas because I'm not sure what it is they have. would it still be safe to use if they dont have a fungal infection or mites? thanks
 
It can only be used for a fungal problem.

If it is mites they need Xeno 450 or something similiar to treat the mites.
 
You can use it whenever you want. They don't HAVE to have fungal for you to use it. I recently used it on 2 pigs that didn't have dandruff and 1 who did just so they would smell the same. I did use a melt on him too though and I didn't use that on the other 2.

It wont help mites but it wont hurt either. No harm trying it.

Xeno 450 or Ivemectin treats mites.
 
You can treat for both fungal and parasitic at the same time, if you are unsure. Having said that, if dandruff is the only symptom I'd be inclined to give them a good bath and just monitor their skin for now. :)
 
I have both the neem melt and shampoo and they do a fab job!:)
My older sow Pinky had quite bad dandruff and was sratching her self all over and had a few scabs. After just 2 baths 1 week apart she smelt and looked beautiful and the dandruff stopped and the small scabs cleared up.
Since the death of her sister Perky I've kept a close eye on her since her weight dropped quite a bit (She's always been a big girl) but after the baths her weight went slowly back up. It must of been the pampering she loved.
It is for use on fungal (dandruff, hair loss) infection and mites, it does a very good job. Her other shampoos are also brilliant for general bathing.:)
 
People use neem shampoo to treat head lice, so I would have thought it would work on mites.

Sadly not. Lice live on the surface of the skin, mites burrow under it. The only effective treatment i know of regarding mites is Ivomec/Ivermectin :)
 
I thought there were two types of mites though, fur mites and then the ones which burrow,called mange mites. I agree that it won't work on mange mites, you definatley need ivomectin then, or advantage, that is mentioned on guinea pig lynx.
