I'm hoping someone can throw some light on this.

One of the pregnant young sows that came to me from the rescue of 40+ the Sophie organised last week seems to have a constant head shake. It's so slight that you really have to study her hard to notice it. Her left eye is constantly flickering as well - again difficult to spot. She's acting completely normally and is eating and drinking well. It dosen't seem to affect her in any way.

I think she's probably around 10 - 12 weeks old and estimate her to be approx 5-6 weeks pregnant. All the piggies from this rescue were living in one large group and are all inbred as the chap only started out with a pair so I'm wondering if this could be the result. I'm thinking it may be a neurological issue but wondered if anyone else has any suggestions ?

Thanks Teresa x

I am sorry - I can't help on this one!

Possibly neurological, but have you checked her ears and around that area to see if there is anything irritating her?
I have a pig with a twitch who walks strange but she is two years old now, healthy and eating well. I would leave alone if she seems pain-free and happy.

Her ears and the area around them seems absolutely fine - very clean and healthy, no irritation that I can see.

My friend came this afternoon and couldn't see what I meant until I pointed it out. Guess I'll just wait to see how she does but she seems fine at the moment :)

See the thread about head tilt.
The flickering eyes are sometimes a sign of a fungal problem.
