I am posted this on behalf of a work colleague of my eldest daughter.

This lady had two boars, one passed away and she thought rather than introduce the one left alone to another boar, she would have him neutered and get two young sows for him as companions.

Anyway, she did this but when she introduced him to the sows he started biting them and pulling out their hair aggressively. She separated them.

Obviously, the boar is an adult and the sows are smaller and younger, so my advice to her was to wait until the sows were a little bigger, then try on neutral territory and gradually to introduce them again.

I hope I was right on my advice to her. Has anyone ever had this happen before, because I haven't? My neutered boars have always been placid and very acceptable to companions.

Hard to believe that such cute little animals can be so aggressive to each other!rolleyes

What you have advised Goldie, sounds sensible to me, it may have been too much to soon. If possible, could the sows live next to the boar but separated by a divider?
I divided my largest c & c and had Georgie living next to the sows for 3 weeks before his neuter op and 3 weeks afterwards and introductions went very smoothly. All the sorting out was done through the divider I think and Fifi and he used to sleep snuggled up to eachother at the grid, they are still the closest now!

I forgot to say that apparently she has had them in two runs already side by side. But thanks for that advice Lavenderjade as that would have been a good idea.

The boar had been neutered three weeks ago. I told my daughter that it was too early for her colleague to have introduced them anyway. And was he trying to hump them at the same time as pulling out their hair? My daughter, Sam, is a guinea pig addict like me, laughed and said she wasn't quite sure how to word that to her work colleague. :)):))
