My boar Lenny was neutered on Monday but today he was trying to urgently get to my sow (who is in a cage above him).

My sow has been walking around with her bum in the air which I believe is a sign that she is accepting a mate? They cannot see each other. Would this maybe a sign that she is not pregnant already if she is accepting a mate now? (see my other thread - HERE).

He is in a Nero 3 Cage at the moment, below my sows Nero 3 Cage. He is literally trying to climb up to her and she is trying to get to him.

Will this stop once Lenny's neutering kicks in? (are there and hormones left that need time to work out of his system following the op he had on Monday)?

Will I have to put up with this racket every time she is in season and will he try to mate with her once they are back together (which won't be for a while)?

I'm not an expert, but I don't think neutering a male guinea pig makes it so it doesn't have the same hormones, just makes sure it doesn't get any little soldiers into the sow, so Lenny might be after her whenever she goes into heat, just won't be able to reproduce.

yeh I thought I'd read that neutering didn't change personalities but wanted to check.

can anyone confirm these questions for me?

thanks, and if he is going to continue to mate with her when she's in season, even if he is firing blanks LOL ... do I need to consider separating them? will he get on her nerves ?

I know it's a different animal altogether, but my Eema's male cat goes after the female quite often... she puts up with it for a while then gives him a smack. Seems to feel that there's not much point. I wouldn't worry about it unless she's being obviously bothered by the attention, or there's injuries to one or the other.

Confirmation from some of the more knowledgable members, please?

Nah it'll be fine, seriously, his hormones are still going mad, but they will disappear in the next 4 weeks. Sows know how to tell a male to get off, believe me she will :)

thanks muchly ... he is being a real pain at the moment. mallethead:(|)

Yep he'll probably still try to mount her once they're together but she'll tell him off. My neutered boar is living with ten sows and they all put him right in his place - he's definitely bottom of the pecking order!

I would consider moving his cage away from hers while he is recovering as it's probably driving him mad being near to her and not being able to get at her!

thanks everyone . I actually moved her to a different room altogether last night as they were driving me round the bend! :(|)

my neutered boar still rumbles and waggles his bum at the girls, almost as if he's telling them off!!
