Would a pair of neutered boars would get on better than a pair of unneutered boars?
Just wondering for when I introduce my two little boys to each other :) x

Neutered boars VS Un-neutered Boars

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE.... Neutered can't produce babies. No temperment differences, nothing

it makes no difference to them at all except the ability to reproduce as hanwombat said :)

Okay, thanks :)
My two boars have completely different natures and I was just wondering if even neutering the most boisterous one would change his nature a wee bit, but obviously not haha.

Does anyone have any tips about introducing two boars to each other? I want to make sure its done properly and neither of them get hurt x

How old are your Boars Alikateross? If they are 'teen' anything from 3-months to a year then i would not risk introductions yet. I would reccoemnd you keep them next door to one another if they are indoor wire cages, or facing one another in hutches. Once they are over a year old their rush of hormones will begin to lessen and you will see true charcters comming through. Then is the time to introduce them, make a holding pen or a secure room and let them meet on neutral ground. Often a smell pen or on the sofa works best. Guinea Pig language can be quite complex but don't interfere with anything unless they have a proper fight. This will be unmistakable to a little nose in the air squabble and will likely cause injury to one or both. There will be lots of noise, rumbling, teeth chattering, and stiff legged bottom swaying.

Keep them in their little pen/run and observe - they fall out very quickly so you should be sure within a few days if it will last.

If all is sucessfull they need a big cage, bigger is better with boars, newly bedded - if you can put some used bedding they have both been one and mix it in so smell is familiar to them.

Thanks, that is extremely helpful :))
One of my boars is just over a year old, and we're not sure how old the other one is, as he was a rescue piggie and the rescue had no idea. But we know for sure that he is older than the one year old.

They are in wire indoor cages next to each other, and they talk to each other (very loudly sometimes!). The older of the two boars (Phoenix ) is very keen to talk and meet the younger one (Butters), but Butters doesn't seem interested at all :p

I've had them together outside on the grass when I've been cleaning out the cages, and it is always Phoenix that wants Butters' attention, and Butters just ignores him really.

Phoenix lives in a very big cage (which used to have two rabbits living in it), so they'd probably live in that cage together if they ever managed to get on with each other

Well i think if they know one another through play time on the grass it could be worht putting them together on a nice day when you have time to completely clean out the big cage and put them back together in that with all fresh stuff. As they are indoor boys you an keep a better eye on them. They actually sound like they could get on if Butter's in disinterested then it would suggest he'd be toloerant of how over eager Pheonix may be initially (lots of humping & talking) You may find that butters is just a little shy of other piggies but once he has a companion to interact with he may change. Personally if there hasnt been any major agression between them before i would give it a chance.

Yeah, Phoenix does tend to hump Butters (quite a lot actually!), and he tries to chase Butters, but Butters just ignores it really haha :p

Butters has gotten on with other guinea pigs in the past, my mum's friend has a guinea pig called Flash, and whenever Flash came over, they used to groom each other and fall asleep together, but its nothing like that with Phoenix at all.

The boys have never had a fight before, I'm just worried if Phoenix's eagerness is annoying Butters at all. But I'll keep letting them play on the grass together and see what happens :)

ps, I've read that thread before and I found it really helpful :)

Thanks guys x
