Hi,

I neutered my male guinea pig last year November. I waited 6 weeks to introduce him to my 2 female guinea pigs. When I introduced them I noticed he has “semen” coming out and wants to get on top of the females. Does this mean he wasn’t properly neutered?

Neutering just stops them being able to reproduce. It doesn't stop the instinct and behaviours around reproduction

Hi and welcome!

Neutered boars are and behave in every way the same as full boars - just that they do no longer have testicles and semen in their semen fluid. But they can still produce the semen fluid that becomes very hard when it dries (semen rods in the penis shaft and 'boar glue' stuck to the fur of other piggies or his own nose). You will find that neutered boars will generally produce less of it over time; the same as with overproductive glease glands.

Neutered boar can also still crank out a major testosterone storm with their hormone laden pee which they spray everywhere when they get excited (usually meeting new sows or other boars through the bars).
