Hi All, I am relatively new to this forum although I have had rescued guinea pigs for several years now. I have a neutered sow (she was neutered about 6 months ago) living with 3 boars (2 entire and 1 neutered). They seemed to have lived in relative harmony with her, until tonight. I went into their shed to feed them and one of the entire boars was on top of her. The sow was quivering in a corner sounding quite distressed. Is it possible for the sows to give off a scent or something even after they have been neutered. I really do not understand what is going on.

@LB76 Boys like to hump. I only have boys and they hump each other from time to time. It's part of their dominance routine.

Having 1 sow to multiple boars is very uncommon. In herds it is recommended for the girls to outnumber the boars. Your boars will all be trying to ascertain which one of them is her partner.

In the interests of the welfare of your piggies please seriously think about separating them. The poor sow will be being stressed to high heaven by having 3 boars trying to be her boss and trying to hump her. It really isn’t fair at all. It’s not a situation you would find in the wild. The kindest thing to do for her is to pair her with one of the boars and keep the others as a pair. Please think about her welfare.
