OK Guys

i think the right option for Naboo may be a lady :)

So how much does it roughly cost getting a boar neutered..

will he be able to be in and out on same day?

what should I know except for the obvious danger :(

The average cost is some around £50, but it can be lower. More important is an experienced vet, as that can really cut down on the risks.

The op is only one day and you can collect your boy once he has safely woken up.

Average cost of castration is the £40-£50 mark, costs may or may not include a post-op check.

Naboo will need a pre-op check as well, so best to pop along to a vet with a view to seeing if you feel confident with the vet as well as having him checked over to see he's suitable for surgery, you should then be able to book the operation. :)

I think Pollie (threelittlepigs) is in Liverpool, may be worth sending a PM to her.

Minimum is usually 4-6 months, varies depending on vets. Some vets go by weight and age e.g. 800g and at least 4 months old.

I had two of mine done years ago at just under 4 months old, but the last boar I got neutered was 6 months and my next in line for the op is around 13 months old.

We took Edward in last month at 5 months old, took him in at 8:30, collected him that afternoon. It cost £31.47.

thanks everyone
hubby doesnt want him having an op he is more his baby than mine now they adore each other him and nick

I have had 3 done now - each was with an experienced guinea vet. They cost £50 each.

You can bring them home same day - I change the bedding every day for the first 14 days (although may do it for a little bit longer for Duke as his cuts are still a bit open).

Cleanliness is really important - you don't want an infection.

You have to wait 4 to 6 weeks after the op to introduce to a sow. I wait 4 weeks but lots of people wait 6. Duke will now probably be waiting 8 as Dolly needs to have babies and wean them before I put them together.

It's a very personal choice but Naboo is very young and neutering is best done when young and he's likely to be happy with a lady friend.

You need to have have a contingency fund incase of complications! I can't stress this enough! My neutered boar cost me an extra £150 and this was with taking him to the CCT for treatment - this does not take into account the costs of petrol! (which was another £90)
