Neutering A Young Boar

I was just wondering how old does a boar need to be before he can be neutered (assuming he is healthy and is a good weight). I am purely asking out of curiosity and not because I have any plans to get anybody neutered at this point in time (or I'd just make a veterinary appointment and ask them myself.)

It varies some say 3-4 months, but others say as soon as there testicules are down.

I think a lot depends on your vet as well.
Here (in Switzerland) all baby boars not for breeding are neutered around 2 - 3 weeks of age (before the testicles descend).
It means they are neutered and immediately returned to the family group.
It also means it is almost impossible for anyone without a license to breed.

In the English speaking countries, it is usually once the testicles have fully descended and your boy is a good weight for an op. They start to descend around 3-4 months.

In German speaking countries, male babies are often neutered before they can become sexually active at 3-5 weeks. They need to be a weight of 200g to qualify for the operation. These babies are called early castrates. Early castration is rare to be performed in English speaking countries and is often frowned upon, but it is becoming more and more common in the German speaking countries after over three decades of practising it and good experiences with it. Babies heal incredibly fast; it means they go straight back to mum and sisters after the op and have never to be separated from them. They still exhibit normal male behaviour, but never undergo the hormonal spikes of a teenager.
