Neutering (again!)

After a very sleepless night with worry I took Spike for his neutering op this morning. I've just had a call from the vets to say he's come round from the anaesthetic so that's one worry of my mind.

I think the vet thought I was crazy because I took in pellets, hay and washed veggies in a little bag but I felt so guilty this morning not giving him them.

Also when I put him in his carry box he started popcorning. I couldn't help but think "if only you knew what was going to happen to you!"

When Scarby spent a night at Roger's he had a banana and his lucky rose quartz heart with him.
 
it all sounds very familiar, i did the same with star when he was neutered, little bag of food and hay, glad it has all gone well. star didn't even seem to know it had been done, he was as bright as a button afterwards.and had no problems after.

I didn't think guineas had to be on nil by mouth as they can't vomit
 
Oh I know they don't but I thought I would rather not fill him up with veggies beforehand. I took him in at 8.30am and they rang at 10.15am! He had hay all night and his pellets but thought at least this way he would have something to look forward to when he's stuck there all day.

Hopefully he won't have any complications over the next couple of days and he won't be too upset with me.... after all it's it's all for his own good! I should really start looking for a pretty sow now!
 
no your right, i didn't have to stop feeding star, they can't vomit, so they are fine eating right up to the op.

he won't be mad with you, he will be happy to see you later when you pick him up, are you going to keep him on towels as bedding for a while,my vets reccomended this to keep his wound clean, and change regularly? he will love a new friend, i think we had to wait 4 weeks though till he could go back in with the sows.
 
I was at Tesco last night buying some new white towels. I'll lay newspaper down and put the towels over. I'm also going to make his cage a little bit smaller to limit his movement for a couple of days.

The only thing I'm worried about is that when things are new he drags his bum along them... hope he does hurt himself!
 
i'm sure if he drags his bum, he'll soon realise he is sore and stop.
how is he this evening, hope he's doing well.
 
Got him home and he was a bit sedated. He looked absolutely petrified but seems to have perked up once he was at home which is reassuring. He doesn't seem to be pooing a lot (and what there is is small) but they did say he hadn't eaten much through the day so I'm not worrying too much. He's eating now he's back in his own cage and he gave me a couple of wheeks when I got home so fingers crossed he's ok.
 
Dont worry about the poop just as long as he is doing a few. Rimmers poop was funny shapes for about a day after and he did lose a little weight too. He was eating but no where near his normal intake. He was eating loads of hay I was forever filling the rack for him. I am sure Spike will be ok he will feel groggy to from the anthestic.
 
I can't imagine it's easy for the poor fellow when someone's been cutting him down there! He's just been out to eat while I'm sat here so I'll just have to make sure my mum watches him like a hawk! My vets have a branch open all weekend so if there are any problems I've got somewhere to take him.
 
aww good piggy :) I'm glad it went okay for him... hope he heals ok :)
I dont think Wilson is looing forward to his op ;D
