I know this has been asked before but I cant find it.

How old and/or what weight does a boar have to be to be neutered, i phoned up my vet yesterday to ask thinking it was about 4-6 months old and was told they would do him at the age of 2 months :{ he is now 11 weeks old but I'm very wary of letting them. just wondered what you lovely people thought :)

was also quoted £38.50 for this procedure

my piggie vet did one of our boys at 9 weeks. he said as long as he can feel them he can take them off and it is less intrusive when they are smaller 'bits'. he is all fine x

thank you feeling a bit better now :) the vet hasnt seen him yet though. so may take him in, he's very small though.

I just got Buddy done at 6 months, the vets said that was their preferred age, but then I guess every vet is different :)

We have our boys neutered at 4 months, I don't think I'd feel comfortable with them being done younger but thats just me.

thank :) he weighs about 300grams at the minute still tiny, so I'm going to wait til he's bigger and older.

My vet wouldn't do my boars until they were 6 months old as he said their organs were not fully developed until that age. I've had all 3 of my boys done and the only one who had minor complications is my eldest Sweep who had the op when he was roughly 8 months old but that was because the bit of fat refused to come out easily. It took him longer to come round from the anasthetic, he had to have an anti-inflammatory injection 4 days later due to him limping and he then developed an abscess 4 months later which may not be connected but it was in that area. My other 2 boys were fine within an hour and have sailed through the whole procedure. Dillon and Fudge both had the op when they were roughly 7 months old
