So I’ve read on here, and indeed several other places that neutering boars has no affect on their personality. However looking at the rspca find a pet I’ve found a boar pair that comes with a voucher to neuter them when they get older. Am I missing something?

I believe that the RSPCA have a policy of neutering all boars. I don’t think neutering changes their behaviour, but it does give them options if, in future, one passes and they end up as a solo.

:agr: It doesn't alter behaviour as is seen in other species. But I fully support rescue centres neutering to prevent any future breeding

Indeed, then we can get all our piggies from responsible sources and not have as many suffering in awful conditions 😁
Exactly.
Here in Switzerland there are literally NO guinea pig rescues.
Even the large animal rescues rarely have piggies in, and when they do the rehoming requirements are crazy - I was refused a pair of piggies because my 10 x 2 C&C was too small for a PAIR :yikes:
They can afford to be super picky because there just aren't that many piggies looking for home (same with most small animals).
And the reason for this is that all boars are neutered at 2-3 weeks of age prior to sexual maturity.
They are popped straight back in with Mum, and when you buy them they are fully recovered and there can never be a mis sexing or an accidental litter from a pet shop or member of the public.
Only licensed breeders (inspected yearly) are allowed to buy entire boars.
And it works.
I wish it were the same everywhere.

That’s brilliant, well not the fact that you didn’t get the piggles, but the rest is. Is it Switzerland where its illegal to own a single guinea?

The RSPCA have a strict neutering policy for all pet species in order to prevent any intentional or accidental breeding.
This has nothing to do with the reasons listed in our guide. It won't affect the boar bond. ;)

Baby boar castration is unfortunately rarely practised outside German speaking countries although it has been in use there more widespread since the 80ies and become the common practice in Switzerland for any pet shop or breeder piggies sold to owners since 2004.
