Hi all, one of my rescue piggies Zulu was neutered 2 weeks ago this wednesday (paid for by his new family, bless them).
He was quite a lad, although easily handled by 8 and 10 yo children, so not THAT bad.
Since his neutering, he has turned into a right little sod! Hes actually bitten me once, and gone for me a further 4 times, he actually turns his head right round and tries to nip, and boy does he mean it! I've never been bitten by a pig in my 14 years of keeping them.
His post op check up gave him the all clear, his wound is healing fantastically well, no swelling, drinking well and eating hay, readigrass and veggies well, but has been fussy with his hard food. I suspected, as he had never been alone, that he was in need of piggie company, so have lowered his indoor cage to ground level in the shed where he can now see the other piggies, and his eating has improved.
I'm just at a loss as to why this op seems to have turned him into a tame and sweet pig to a git! I am working with him daily, but as he is, i am really not happy with returning him to the kids, once bonded with his new female friend, if he carries on like this.
Any ideas?

I have no idea why his behavious has changed so dramatically - it may just settle down once the hormones settle. I have numerous boars neutered here and none have really changed in personality at all.

I can only suggest doing what I used to do with angry unsociable bunnies - i would use a wooden spoon to stroke them with - saves the fingers - bunny/guinea soon gets the idea that its actually quite nice.

Someone else may be able to offer explanations for you.

Helen.
